What The Club Says

The parkland type course of just under 5,000 yards in length is in a location close to the centre of Edinburgh. It was designed originally by Ben Sayers and altered in 1936 by James Braid.

This traditional course is set on two hills and meanders along the valley in between. The course features many interesting holes and has splendid views of Edinburgh, East Lothian, West Lothian and Fife.

Hilly and then some

A very hilly course which requires a motorised trolley unless you like carrying a heavy bag up mountain sides. Some of the greens are patchy but run absolutely true so holing from 10 ft or less is always on. The short 13th is one of several great holes.

Crazy Golf

Really not my cup of tea. Hilliest course I ever played. Strathpeffer Comrie and Craigie Hill are bowling greens in comparison. Very few flat lies and some serious climbing up and down.
A lot of frankly dangerous shared fairways with crossing holes. Friendly pro and members, but a unique experience that didn't suit me. Nice views across Edinburgh

Potential being let slip

More should be done to rescue this interesting medium course with a good location in Edinburgh. People looked flat, the pro looked flat, the course looked flat.... in all but geology. Tee boxes looked shabby, some greens were in very poor condition and a layout that directs several holes directly into the prevailing winds is looking to cram holes into a space rather than think of the player. It had so much more potential.....that said it is worth the green fees just to play the 13th hole. This course is very much geared to high handicappers and ladies.

Not one for the faint hearted. Hilliest course I've ever played (much steeper than Swanston) and with a rather confusing layout with lots of crossing over and walking between holes. Worth the hike for some of the views though. Fairways and layout were a lot of fun and it plays longer than the par suggests thanks to the elevation. Very helpful pro gave us some navigation tips at the first tee but a few "next tee" signs wouldn't hurt.

The greens were rather disappointing - inconsistent speeds and surprisingly soggy considering it hadn't rained for a few days. Course was practically deserted when we played but still managed to get a lecture from a jobsworth member about our speed of play. We finished our round in 3.5 hours (pretty good considering the layout and finding our way about for the first time) but he thought he'd speed us up by talking to us for 5 minutes about hurrying up. We offered to let him play through, even though he was over a hole's length behind us, but he didn't want to. Just wanted to spoil our day. Couldn't relax after that and won't be back. There's no shortage of excellenthe courses with welcomingredients members in the area. Shame really.

Not in the best of nick. Greens and Tees in need of a little TLC. pro and club staff very attentive and friendly. Splendid views of city from the top of the course. 13th Tee provides great view and the green below is a fine target for the 210m par 3.

Not for the faint hearted!

Steep sloping fairways on several holes can punish even reasonable shots as the ball trundles down to the edge of the adjacent fairway; especially in dry weather. Considerable changes of elevation across the course means a good physical work out for all. Challenging and sometimes dramatic Par 3s add to the fun! Friendly club and excellent clubhouse facilities round out a good day out. Visitors welcome.

This was my first time on the course, very tricky in places and if you don't know the course very challenging. I would recommend a powered trolley as you are climbing mounting. The course would make a lot of money if they invested in golf carts.

A tight parkland course where you know you've played well if you make a good score. Some spectacular views around the course. Small greens make for accurate iron play with some serious punishment if you miss on the low side of the green. Greens were in excellent condition, rolling fast and true which is what you want.
The clubhouse is a modern open ans spacious design with superb views over the Pentland Hills .
