What The Club Says

McDonald Golf Course is almost 6000 yards, with a par of 70 (Ladies 73), this testing golf course is laid out in such a way that it is enjoyable to play no matter the standard of your golf. The longer front nine has a par of 37 and makes full use of its natural stream and gentle slopes to pose a whole host of problems for the thoughtful golfer.

Disappointing

Heard a few people comment on how wet the course can be but thought I would give it a go. For ?20 I was a bit surprised that it was a complete winter course layout. The first 2-3 fairways were waterlogged, the winter greens not the best, however not sure why the summer greens are not being used, they have been cored and look in great condition, there was not frost so a bit annoyed that summer green not in use. The first 2 holes were meant to be par 4?s just over 300 each but the winter greens and tees brought it to 200 so played as though a par 3, the score card still had a the summer tees and green which really should be adjusted for the winter layout. I've played numerous courses in and around the Aberdeen and Shire area and all are still on summer greens, even the municipals in the city which I believe are in much better condition. Possibly a change in mindset needed around putting the green to bed

Interesting course set in 2 hole circuits. The 1st 9 holes are the newest and occupy a wide swath of parkland. The 2nd 9 are the original course. The holes are interesting and can be tricky but very enjoyable. The greens are excellent and play brilliantly. The variety of holes keeps the pace of play enjoyable

Thanks to a friend for the invitation to join in this Ellon Rotary Club Tournament. Beginner at golf and this was my first game in Scotland. Blessed with a beautiful sunny day so conditions were in our favour. Enjoyed the course which has various hazards like the stream and the usual long grass in the rough.

Fine weather and course played well even though there was massive amounts of rain on the days prior.

Played off 2 mats on the back 9 which was unfortunate give that it was June.

Definitely a course of two 9 holes - longer front 9 to the back 9.
But good course overall and two very difficult par 4 holes to end the round.
