Fabulous course in great surroundings
A fast, testing layout, especially in the wind. Tight fairways & slick greens. Stay on the fairway to avoid disappointment!Reviewer Rating

Glad we did this because it’s a must play, it’s absolutely fantastic. Fairways, tee’s, greens all in great condition. Is enjoyable to play, with some stunning holes and views. For £65 it’s bargain. If this course was on mainland Scotland the price would be in excess of £100 easy.
If you’re a golfer who enjoys a good course, go and play it you won’t be disappointed.

It follows a classic links layout, 9 holes out and 9 holes back, winding through the sand dunes. Blind drives and approach shots abound. The first 9 holes are stunning, and holes 10-16 are ferocious: we played on a windy day (there may be no other kind here), the two par 5s were borderline 4-shotters, one of the par 4s was out of reach in two, and the par 3s needed 4-iron, hybrid and driver. Even the short par 4 had a huge sloping green! The last 2 holes are usually regarded as the weakest on the course, but they give you time to pause and reflect on what you have just been through.
To misquote Public Enemy - believe the hype, this may be the finest links course in Scotland.

The weather has varied from glorious sunshine with no wind, to monsoon like rain with a swirling gale, but each and every time the course has been excellent fun to play and always in fantastic condition.
Holes 1 to 14 are all excellent, the last 4 are a little more bland and have the feel of just needing to fit in 4 more holes to make an 18 hole course. Regardless of this less than stellar finish the course demands return visits, even making the 3 hour drive from Glasgow worthwhile, although a much more civilised trip would be to go via arran for a few days, take in Whiting Bay, Lamlash, Corrie or Shiskine before heading over to Kintyre.
