What the club says: This course is a unique combination of parkland and links located on the south side of the Firth of Forth. It is not long by modern standards, but is designed to reward the strategic player. The fairways are quite generous and the greens are fairly large, but the penalty for straying off-line can be severe. The club is a former venue of the British Seniors and an Open and Scottish Open qualifying venue.

Pleasantly surprised

With several 'big name' courses close by, wasn't sure what to expect - we were greeted with the warmest of welcomes in the pro shop & the course was very good. In good condition, a nice varied mix of holes, some tough par 3s and plenty bunkers to keep you focused. Nice sea views in places too - very enjoyable.

classic links experience

we were in the fortunate position of being invited by a club member, to hold one of our three annual outings at Longniddry in September. The course was in lovely condition, with the greens especially a delight to putt on, it is a tough but fair challenge. We also enjoyed an excellent meal after our round, which was very good value for money.

Not a true Links as quite Parkland like in places. Good layout and a fair challenge. Course very dried out due to recent weather, and greens were lost and burnt out.

A links type course with a few holes around the turn bounded by trees, this course isn't an easy par 68 - the lack of par 5's is made up by a number of par 4's whose variety will test you in the ever present wind, either in your face or chasing you. The bunkering is good (as I found to my cost) and the greens large, flat and with a good roll. Decent value on twilight rates.

This is a long and challenging course with what seems like 100s of bunkers, greens and fairways are all good and with it being on the coast it has smashing views of the river Forth and Fife

Played on 3/9/15 and course in really good condition. Fairways great, rough not too punishing and the greens very firm and fast (more than im used too on a parkland style anyway).
If you are drivimg well then there are numerous birdie chances but still require good strategic play as an honest amount of bunkers can catch you.
It the first few holes and the last 7 holes are the most links like holes and the midsection is more parkland like. The sea breeze always in play regardless though. And the course is nicely designed and has a good flow.
Also some very good and fun par 3s with brilliant views over to edinburgh and the firth of forth!
This was the only course i played on my Scotland trip (as it wasnt a golf trip) but next time im there id experience other courses too with no reason to not playing this course again!

We played the course back in the summer when the weather was excellent so made it a much more enjoyable experience. The course was immaculate, greens were really good and couldn't fault it at all.
Has a reputation for being a bit pricey and sometimes hard to get a game there but on this occasion we got a good deal and had no problem getting on since it was after 3pm in the afternoon.
Didn't go into the clubhouse after.

I very much enjoyed the course. Strange to have no par 5's but the holes were often varied and a good test. Fairways are generous and greens very good. I'm not really getting where the references to Links golf comes in with this course. It starts off with a lot of trees in play and these do get less towards the end of the round but none of it is anything link a links course as i understand it. The club house is nice although the pro shop is not particularly extensive. I was concerned that our party of around 20 were tolerated rather than fully accepted. This perception did taint my view of the whole club. For the benefit of our trips to scotland we split into two team and this necessitates playing in 2 or 4 balls. Apparently they only allow 3 balls here so our request for fourballs had to go before the committee. It was duely accepted. On the day, however, the tee was very busy after our groups set off. Strangley our last group was followed by two very decent players in a golf buggy. These two were predictably right up the last fourballs backsides all the way round, but never made any request to play through. Half way around we found out the club captain was also out behind us and he felt it necessary to issue a hurry up message to our party. strange as all of our groups completed the course in just about a straight 3.5 hours. I don't think that is slow play at all on a busy afternoon on a strange course from a mixed bag of handicap players. It just made me think that they were happy to take our money but somewhat begrudging of us going out in fours so had arranged for some pressuring tactics to make sure we were off the course as quick as they could manage. The fact that the scorecard gives expected timings for you to complete each hole suggests they are very slow play obsessed at the course. Non of us like slow play but it seems a priority here over actual enjoyment, which is a shame when they've got a very nice course. To sum up Nice golf course shame they could'nt have been more hospitable. Doubt we'll be back !!
