What the club says: Established in 1922, the English Golf Union has recognised our downland course as a great test of golf by asking us to host the Carris Trophy in 1999 and the English Boys Open in 2008 - both attracting strong international fields.
Described by 'Golf Monthly' as a "hidden gem," the 6,305 yards par-70, 18-hole course with 72 bunkers at High Post has, over the years, received many complimentary remarks. Reputed to be one of the finest venues in the country, perhaps the highest praise for the course came from Peter Alliss who placed the par-4 ninth in the list of his dream 18 holes.

Played here yesterday in a gale in a pro-am and I'd describe it as an inland links with a more undulating back 9. The course was superbly presented with lovely fairway turf, great greens and fabulouus views. Bunkers had unusual sand but realised this is because softer sand would blow away. Friendly clubhouse and staff. Definitely recommend although a slight negative is the compact nature of the course.

brought back many happy and challenging memories for me, having played here many times 30 years previous in The High Post Foursomes, usually played in a cold October playing longer than normal, however this time the weather was sunny which complimented the course so well the tees, fairways and greens were in excelent shape and well worth a low score, not from me.. thou a welcome birdie on the tricky 17th par 3 made my day complete playing in DGA event, great day all round with nice food and very helpful staff

An absolute Gem

I was really impressed with this course, it’s an absolute Gem of a course and the condition was was 2nd to none, having played some belters on the England DGA Tour this year it was certainly up there. It’s not the most challenging course I’ve played but by far the best condition I’ve had the pleasure to play on this year.

First time visit despite only being 40 minutes from home. Played with a society, course ambassador George, is a real gent. Felt very welcome. Played on a dry, mostly sunny day, it's clear when the wind blows the course defences increase significantly. Will be back.

Great condition for the time of year

The course was in great condition for the time of year ... Greens were quick and true, fairways like a carpet, tees good.

Lovely course definitely worth a visit

Played here for the first time and it was great! The tees and greens are in excellent condition and the fairways are generous, so great if you are not always straight off the tee.
All the staff are very helpful, a green keeper even waited to show us where my husbands ball had landed in the rough ????
Would definitely recommend.

Very dry and peaceful on the South Downs

Greens have just been through a round of maintenance, so there was evidence of sand/dressing on the greens but this didn't really detract from anything. Because it is built on chalk, everything drains very quickly and the greens were running quite quickly. Very undulating greens made putting testing. The wind got up for the back 9 and was into for the last 4 making the 16th and 17th particularly difficult.

Always a good test of golf at Hockley.

Lovely course

Great course and yes if you are nearby make sure you go and play it. Tough in places, fairways are forgiving and greens very consistent. Par 3's are tricky and gorse hedges make a straight shot a must. Having said this, many fairways are quite wide. Great views towards Salisbury and surrounding area.

Gem of a course..a must play

Although it had rained heavily for previous 3 days and light rain during the round the course showed no signs and played as if it had only rained that morning.

Although not the longest of courses the slopes, bunkering and tricky and fast greens will test golfers of all abilities.

Great facilities from the changing room and showers, practice and warm up, to course and inviting clubhouse where staff have won awards.

Course has some great holes and great views over the countryside and a great shot may be rewarded with a flypast as the runway from Boscom Down military airfield is very close.

Gem of a course

Very well presented course. Greens smooth and fast. Bunkers well raked with consistent sand. Attractive views of the surrounding countryside. A course which requires accuracy to achieve a good score. The final 3 holes are particularly challenging.

In great nick!

Clandon Golf - always accommodating, friendly welcome and the course in its best condition I've seen it. A track that gives you every opportunity to open the shoulders early on and then poses questions on accuracy and your course management skills. Greens a little patchy in places to be expected at this time of the year and considering the summer we've had.
