What the club says: This course, designed by the internationally renowned Donald Steel is set along the River Crane. It features the contours and lakes of the rolling countryside and is named after the majestic river, which comes into play on many of the holes. The course was opened for play in 1992 and the tricky parkland layout is less than a 30-minute drive from the centre of Bournemouth encompassing wonderful features of the surrounding Dorset countryside.

Greens and tees excellent
Understandably, muddy in places with extreme wet weather over the last month, but greens were excellent.Reviewer Rating

Disappointing
Very slow pace of play two hours thirty for nine holes as a three ball. Main problem is that the grass is not properly layered off the fairway. The ball would just roll off the fairway and you are looking to find it.Reviewer Rating

Nice solid course
A nice gentle round with the back nine making you think a little about shot selection. Greens are generally quite hilly which makes them harder to read and to keep 2 putting . We played at 3:30 and had a number of 1 & 2 balls teeing off when they wanted so caused a lot of bunching up and play through which was marginally annoying.overall a nice solid course though that I would definitely play againReviewer Rating

Good beginners course in nice setting
Undulating and nice fairways. Ditches border the fairways so beware. Later holes are a bit short but you need to be accurate if you want to get par.Reviewer Rating

Not a winter course
The wet weather has taken a big toll on this course with large areas extremely muddy and the greens have been badly sanded. This was done as the greens had a disease we were told. Avoid this as there are better condition courses locally(Round played: Mar 2022 - Score: 90 Handicap: 14.4)

So, I was a full member here for about 3/4 years - lovely people play here, great staff etc but in the last year or so something seems to be terribly wrong with the greens. I love a putt or three so greens are very high on my wish list - so I'm afraid Crane Valley is out of bounds for the foreseeable. In addition it appears many members/visitors are illiterate as cannot read large signs placed around course to guide trolleys away from wet areas that need protection.
Huge pitchmark left by group before on 6th tee, maybe they were so proud of being so close they left it for us to see.
Some temp tee boxes but while badly needed tee reconstruction underway but they are too small. On 15th - driver is needed and there really is not enough room to let the big dog out unless you are adept at playing with heels in mid air.

Refurbished club and course
Played this course several times over the years but it has recently been taken over by a new company who have spent a lot of money redesigning the course (new bunkers and lake) all bunkers have been updated too. The clubhouse has also had a makeover, there is no pro shop as you would usually find, check in is at the bar where you can purchase the usual small items. The course is of two halves, one with trees lining many holes the second nine more open. A good test of golf, worth a visit, I will be back
