What the club says: Our Club opened for play on 14 June 1912. It was designed by W. Herbert Fowler and was described by James Braid, five-times winner of the British Open, as 'a good sporting course'. It is a good test of golf for players of all abilities, combining the fun of links-style golf with constantly changing battles with the wind blowing in from Beachy Head. Age too, is no barrier, as the springy turf is always pleasant to walk on and the undulations are gentle enough for the most mature of players.

Sunny October round

I played Cooden Beach on a warm late October day - it was 18 degrees & sunny. Course was in very good order - tee boxes, putting green, fairways, green aprons all well groomed. Flew round in under 3 hours, enjoyed the course and its challenge. Lots of trouble (ditches/water) if you put the ball in the wrong place. Staff were very accommodating. My only criticism would be the pace of the greens - they were far too slow. Otherwise would be happy to play here again.

Super course, great value, warm welcome from the Pro.

Visit to Cooden Beach was a great experience. Course in very good condition considering the recent snow and bad weather. Greens looking in great shape. Really testing course and some great views on the East Sussex countryside. Comfortable clubhouse but disappointed with not being able to even get a sandwich from a closed kitchen after 18 holes.

Host on the Coast

Friendly welcome, great breakfast reasonably priced, course in good condition considering time of year, greens receptive and moderately quick. Would definitely play again and worth the trip.

Worth a visit

Good course in excellent condition.
Wide fairways but do not think it is an easy course as the wind plays a very big part as to where and how you hit the ball.

great course

played here on a Golf monthly forum meet and was expecting a true links course so i was surprised to see a links/park/wood hybrid type course.
its a lovely layout with some great holes and the wind certainly made things interesting

Taken me 30 years to play this after being refused entry for no long socks, and has to be said was worth the wait. Super friendly pro and secretary. Net and practise green near the first. Course is more marsh than links, but so many good holes. Very sensible 6,200 off the yellows, great variation in approach clubs required. Well appointed midway bathroom and refreshment facilities. Nice and quiet, very easy walk.
Won't suit the wild longer hitter, every hole is by itself with very serious trouble either side of the fairway. Greens surprisingly soft and slow. Condition not spot on, needs some paths for trolleys and carts. Can hardly see the sea..
Overall seriously under rated on here, easily top 500. Had a good deal on teeofftimes easily worth a 30 to 40 quid green fee.
