What the club says: At the heart of Chorleywood’s magnificent common lies the oldest golf course in Hertfordshire. Well-maintained, it enhances the picturesque views in many corners of the area and provides easy walking. Many consider that the constant proximity of golfers makes the common a safer place for walkers. Throughout its long life, the golf club has always taken its responsibilities for sharing the common very seriously. It co-operates with the council in looking after the wooded areas alongside the course and is ever mindful of the need to preserve the wild life habitats.

Feeling the history

Pleased to play another Braid & costs are low but expectations to be kept in check. Good tees & fairways but greens the slowest Ive played since mid winter. No bunkers or water to defend the greens but polenty of trees for the wayward. Plenty of people around as its common ground but mostly dogwalkers so a need to be wary.

The one thing that hangs over this course, is the dog/family/any walkers that pass by. When saying by I mean over, through. However, lots of practice swings and shouts of 'fore' soon push them aside. This issue does mean that it's hard in beautiful weather, so sometimes better when it's not so good. Apart from that, the course is great fun. Very tight, full of lots of different challenges on each hole. It really is a great course, fun to play and usually in good condition!

This 9 hole course was not particularly challenging, especially as the only real hazard is a small pond (which affects the 1st and 9th holes). The greens were in reasonable condition, but the fairways have suffered, possibly due to the fact that the course is criss crossed by public pathways that are (unfortunately very obviously) frequented by dog walkers. The clubhouse was very nice and the people there are very friendly, however £20 is a bit much for this course.
