What the club says: Bolton Golf Club has been at its present location Lostock Park on the north western side of Bolton since 1912. The golf course commands panoramic views over the South Lancashire and Cheshire plains and enjoys an enviable reputation for its well manicured layout with fast and consistently smooth putting surfaces.

Most Helpful Review

I was slightly underwelmed by this course. Decent course with nice true greens. But nothing spectacular. Good practice areas including 40yard pitching area and well laid out driving range.
Very expensive for what you get. Much better value and course at Mottrham hall. I felt i was paying for its exclusivity rather than it being a top championship course.

Extremely helpfull pro and great clubhouse.

Hollow tones greens were like Lego. Disappointing. Otherwise it was decent for the price we paid.

Not great
The course is great one of my favourite ones in the area but the greens today were awful which is a real shame. Will still play it again cause normally the greens are exceptional

Really enjoyed our game.
Many thanks for the welcoming feeling from this club. 3 of us played the course today and all enjoyed the day. The course was in great condition even though we have had so much rain recently.

Great Condition
An excellent course, plenty of undulations & a testing course. Some great holes where you have to think before you hit, such as the quirky 7th.
Course was in great condition despite the very heavy rain we'd had, with great views across the surrounding area.
The pro in the shop was excellent, really friendly & helpful

One of NW finest
I'd struggle to fault the course, well kept tee boxes, manicured fairways in very good order considering the golfing traffic & stunning greens in impeccable order, quite quick but very true - only negative was being stuck behind a very slow 4-ball & despite me showing the the courtesy expected they didnt show me any & would let me play through, what should have taken 3.5hrs took nearly 5hrs as a result & nearly spoilt the experience, hopefully this isnt a reflection on the vast majorityof the membership.
Course undulates quite significantly & those who are less able may struggle without a buggy but a very good test of your golfing skills; not the longest course but in lack of length it makes up for in technical & environmental challenges.

Great course, in great condition. It poured down all night so we went worried about the condition of the course, had the the very rare odd boggy patch but thats understandable considering the solid 8 hours of rain it had overnight. Very hilly so if you could possibly struggle with the length and steep many steep hills then arrange a buggy. Fantastic layout, really good challenge tee to green, and the greens are very undulating and quite quick. Definitely worth a go, we all really enjoyed it

First time playing this lovely course which is in v good condition which enjoys some fabulous views. Some local knowledge is definitely needed and the amount of break on some of the greens was a nasty surprise ! Need to play it again and try and shoot a better score !

Played in awful weather, pretty much didn't stop raining for the whole round. The course showed no signs of holding water and stayed dry under foot. Challenging course with some great views. Was quite hilly but not as much as I was expecting. So over all it was real value for money and will definitely be playing again during the summer months.

Played mid april on a wet and windy day. Course was in good condition. Nice testing course that definitely requires prior course knowledge on a few holes, in particular the 2 dog legs. Quite forgiving, but challenging long par 4's and tough par 3's. Nice club house and great food.

Greens were excellent. Nice established course. Quite an open course so would suit all levels.
Some winter tees questionable, 200 yards down fairway on a couple of holes.
Staff and members all friendly and helpful.
Would play again.

Even after the heavy rain recently, the course was in great condition, no doubt to the hard work of the groundsmen. If I have any criticism at all, it was my first time around the course, and I struggled with the amount of blind shots. Other than that well done to the golf club, but especially the ground staff for presenting the course in such a good fashion.

Craig, Bolton rated 5 out of 5 - Oct 2 2016

This is a truly excellent golf course with incredibly helpful and welcoming staff. To put this in context, we were visitors playing in front of the final of the presidents cup, and were kindly asked to wait and let them play through. At other courses this would have been handled in a poor manner with visitors treated as vermin but here all of the stewards and players we came across were friendly and treated us with respect. The clubhouse is also very nice and had a warm atmosphere.

The course itself is well designed with testing bunker traps guarding most greens (which themselves are the best putting surfaces in the area without a shadow of a doubt). There are stunning views to be had from most holes and whilst fairly hilly this did not affect the enjoyment, still walkable for the able bodied.

If anything the only gripe would be the variation of holes - 14 par 4s and only one par 5 got a bit repetitive although each hole was a unique challenge.

Would highly recommend especially if you can get a good deal online as we did.
