What the club says: The course combines more than 80 years of mature woodland and undulating landscape with the attention to detail achieved by only the best quality courses. The standard of the upkeep, in all seasons and weathers, has made this a connoisseurs' course. Each hole is given its own name - a reminder of the heritage of the club. The most challenging of all is the 15th, The Waafery. Others such as the Blasted Ash, May Tree, Little Pastures and The Spinney paint a picture of the lush, parkland setting. Beware of the brook that meanders through the 7th, 10th, 11th and The Waafery. It is one of the surprises hidden in this jewel of a course.

Good course and venue

Played in the Bedfordshire County Senior Championships for 2024. Course was set up well, but with some difficult pins as you would expect. Roasting hot day, and everything running further than usual. Greens were quite hard, so not easy to stop a ball on them.

The bunkers leave a little to be desired, as some have dark 'builders sand' in them and others have been changed over to whiter, softer sand. According to a member we spoke to; they intend to change all of the bunkers, but this will be a long and expensive procedure.

Strange to play one green (13th) which had a drain in the middle of it. It just goes to show how wet things can get during Winter!

As food was included with our package, I can't comment on cost, but the quality was very good - best steak pie I've had in a long time. Although I last played here in 2017 in the same comp, It always feels like once you've played it; it's easy to remember where the dangers are and so hopefully avoid them. The greens are definitely it's greatest defence, because it's not overly long or hard to negotiate. Straighter drivers will score well here.

Enjoyable

Played here for the first time as part of captains day from Chalgrave manor. From the moment we got on the first tee I thought this could be good. Great work on tee boxes, fairways and greens all were impeccable in my opinion. Even had a complimentary Ice cream halfway round. I?d recommend playing here and look forward to our return.

Another great course

Played here a few times now and found it to be a very nice undulating course with some testing holes. Conditions are excellent and the welcoming hut can be visited twice on your round for tasty snacks and drinks

Myself and 3 friends played Beds and County yesterday, it was a really enjoyable experience. The fairways are in fantastic condition, and the greens rolled well, they have recently done some work on them but they still played well. I did find myself in 5 bunkers on the way round and they were excellent to say the least. This is my favorite of all the courses around Bedford.

Fantastic though Busy course, I played on a Friday afternoon and it was very busy,I played in a two ball though had to start on the 11th. we got held up for the last 8 holes due to very slow play from 2 golfers that did not think to let players through. overall a great experience with some fantastic holes, quite a tight course so you had to think your way around, I think I only got the driver out twice. only downside was the state of the bunkers. terrible sand and most were filled with water.

Played in the Bedfordshire County Senior Championships, and the greens had been set up at 10.0 on the stimp meter. They were very fast, but running steadily and true. Avoided the bunkers, but they looked like they have done some improvements since I last played the course. Tees and fairways were all good, and with not much of a breeze, we all should ahve been scoring quite well. Food was very good, and all in all we were well looked after.

Played here for the first time and really enjoyed the course. Very well presented, immaculate Greens and fairways.
The members extremely welcoming as was the guy in the Proshop. Everyone friendly. Nice bar area.
Only negative was went into the bar expecting a nice lunch as to be told no chef in and therefore no food other than Crisps. Pubs nearby however so no great issue.

Course played really well, fairways well kept and greens very very true and a good pace. A little congested on back nine due to number of players on course but still a good pace of play. only complaint would be most of the par 3's were teeing off of mats when the grass tees looked in good condition.

I play this course quite regularly, and my round in early April 2017 is easily the worst condition I've seen the course presented in. The 2nd tee seemed to be closed (for no reason as far as I could tell) so we were off a very small mat, which was far too close (distance wise) to the 1st green. This was not the only mat!!!, in fact of the 5 par 3's, only one was NOT off a mat. The first par 5 was also played off a mat, and was shortened by around 80 yards, and this hole off the proper tees is usually one of the more challenging driving holes. Bunkers were pretty dreadful (as usual I should add), looked like they hadn't been raked regularly, and had too little sand in them. I also found the greens to be quite solid, and not showing any kind of pitch mark, as if they had not been watered for some time.
Generally I enjoy playing here, but this was disappointing for a spring start after a particularly mild winter - the course should have been far better prepared.
On the plus side, the food was good, but as a guest of Bedfordshire Captains Society, I cannot comment on cost/value for money.

This is a nice mature course, not hugely difficult but certainly with some challenging holes. It is hilly in parts with some very steep up and down fairways. Unfortunately there are at least two crossover points where it is necessary to give way to other players on other holes, and some of the fairways are quite close to each other such that you need to be keeping a watchful eye out on what's going on around you. This is something that I, personally, feels detracts from a golf course and is the reason why I'm only giving this course a 'Good' score. Other than that the club is very organised and claims a full range of coaching facilities. The club house is excellent and the pint of Dunbar I had had been kept well in the cellar. Of particular note is that fact that person who served me at the bar actually emptied my crisps into a bowl before giving me them - something so rare I can't remember the last time it happened to me: impressive!
