What the club says: Our 9 Hole Golf Course is a 1879 yard parkland type course which overlooks the beautiful Welland Valley.

The course consists of six par three holes and three par four holes which may sound short or unorthordox to the purist, but we can assure you with the tight fairways and target greens it makes for an interesting round of golfer for a player of any experience.

Dissapointed
Watch for closing time we were putting out on the 16th green at 10 mins to 6 when we were approached by the green keeper who told us we had to leave as the course closed at 6pm it was a bright sunny day when I asked why as it states on the web site and the gate that it doesn't close till 9pm ha said that it has been closing at 6 for some time now. The times on the web site and on the gate should be changed if we had been informed about this when we paid the green fee's we would have left and went to Priors hall golf course witch close's at dusk, There were others behind us who were just as unhappy about this I for one wont be back.

Small but challenging.
A neat little course that challenges your short game, it is in really good condition at the moment. If you want 18 holes you go round twice for the same price as 9, which is really good value. The clubhouse has bar & restaurant sections, what was the shop now houses a golf simulator. It also has a proper range with about 30 spaces.
Well worth a visit.

Blackthorn Wood Golf Complex.
The course is quite challenging for a 9 hole course it has three par 4's and the rest are par
3's, conveniently placed bunkers and ponds mean you often have to lay up on par 4's, the
9th is on a plateau about 6 feet high, the clubhouse has a bar and other amenities and it is the same price whether you play 9 or 18 holes. It also has a full driving range.

The course was in good condition for the time of year and weather. The greens were quite fast and mostly green (not much straw colour). For anyone who has'nt played there, its a fairly short 9 hole course but its not easy, its quite narrow in places with challenging bunkers and ponds strategically placed. It has 3 par 4's and 6 par 3's. It is also good value because it cost the same for 18 holes (twice round) as it does for 9. There is a restaurant or snacks at the counter, a golf range and shop, all in all just about anything you would need. Also there is the Blackthorn Society, a friendly club that is always looking for new members.

Love the course, always good and firm, the driving range is very good because it's always dry, whatever the weather, and I just love the shop

(Round played: Dec 2015 - Score: 79 Handicap: 14) The course is usually in very good condition but because of all the rain we have been having it was very soft underfoot, some of the bunkers had a bit of water in but not all. With it being so soft you had to get your distances exact because there was no roll on, it was more difficult than it
usually is, still enjoyable though.

I've never seen the course looking better, the greens were brilliant, really fast. Fairways and greens were greener than than usual (no brown patches). All in all a course in top condition.

Kevin / Corby rated 1 out of 5 - Apr 17 2015

I am sorry but this is the worst course I have ever played for the following reasons......
The bunkers appear to contain industrial sand full of stones , one bunker hardly contained any sand at all, although the fairways are passable the same can not be said for the greens that resemble a beach not a golf green, I actually watched a youth tee off from one ! Etiquette does not seem to exist here with players playing across your fairway and playing shots from out of bounds, with Corby on the doorstep and for a similar price I will not be returning here.

The course was soft [down to the time of year] but in good condition, narrow in places, challenging because of the location of hazards but well worth a visit to improve the short game.

Terry D rated 4 out of 5 - May 20 2012

The course was surprisingly firm considering the amount of rain we have endured lately, only two bunkers on the course had any water in, the greens and fairways were well kept, teeing from grass tees not winter ones. The course is quite challenging because its fairly narrow and the fourth fairway has just been cut narrower to make it even more difficult with the pond at just about driving distance as well.
