Amendoeira Golf Resort

By: Golf Shake | Fri 28 Aug 2015

Thinking about a golf trip to Europe? Portugal? The Algarve? then look no further the the Amendoeira Golf Resort that not only provides excellent accommodation, facilities & activities for all the family but is the gateway to 40 golf courses nearby.

We recently headed over from the UK for a short trip staying at the Amendoeria and experiencing the 7 Oceanico courses that are located nearby as well as the Oceanico Academy which features top class facilities and unique 9 hole floodlit course.

The Algarve is renowed for its golf courses, superb weather, hospitality & accessibility.  Check out what we thought during our stay.

Location

The Amendoeira Golf Resort is set in the heart of the golfing mecca that is the Algarve and a 45-50 minute drive from Faro airport close to the town of Silves. With 2 18 hole golf courses on site – The Faldo and The O’Connor – as well as the 9 hole floodlit academy course it boasts a safe setting for both golfer and non-golfers as the highly popular destination of Vilamoura is only a short taxi ride away. The resort also features a sports club with a gymnasium, football and tennis courts.

With 2 courses on site and 5 Oceanico courses only a short taxi ride away it’s a perfect setting if you do want to be away from the hustle and bustle.  Due to the location of the resort, as well as other courses in the area, a hire car maybe recommended.

Accommodation

The resort boasts elegant self-catering apartments and villas with a mixture of communal and private swimming pools.

All modern accommodation offers 2 bathrooms, spacious lounge including a flat screen TV with satellite channels along with CV/DVD players, fully equipped kitchen area with breakfast bar, dining area, dishwasher and washing machine.

Whether your looking for a couples retreat or a group booking the Amendoeira offers an option for all with 2, 3, 4, 4 Superior and 5 bedroom villas available.

With some accommodation a lengthy walk away from the main building the resort offers a shuttle service to and from your building. It is walkable but if you are carrying clubs it is advisable to use this service. If your tee time is earlier than 8am then it would also be advisable to leave your clubs in the storage room overnight as the shuttle doesn’t start until after 8am.

Food and Drink

Breakfast is included in packages and is served from 7:30am. A range of cooked and continental breakfasts are on offer and will have everything anyone should require.

The restaurant where breakfast is served is also the location for a lunch or dinner or those post round beers.

There is an adequate menu on offer from salads, burgers and sandwiches to steaks and other mains. This will suit your light lunch after a round or your evening meal. Surprisingly, for a golf resort, the menu is excellently priced  - Steak and Chips for 10 Euros and a pint of larger for 4.50 euros.

The Golf Courses

The 7 Oceanico courses provide more that a golfer could want if you plan to stay at the Amendoeria resort.  During our visit we played 4 of the courses on offer including the on site Faldo and O'Connor courses as well as the world renowned Old and Victoria courses.

Oceânico Faldo Course

Designed by Sir Nick Faldo and opening in 2008 the Faldo courses requires strategic play over 6,604 meters par 72 championship course.

Golfers will be impressed with the Faldo course set around the Amendoeira resort which will require some thought working your way around the 18 holes and vast bunkers set within this glorious setting.

Oceânico O'Connor Course

Complementing the Faldo Course the O'Connor course designed by Christy O'Connor Jnr provides a different challenge with golfers facing water over the sand on the Faldo course. Again this course will require decision off the tee and some thought to the shots played as you make your way around this picturesque course.

With lakes and streams throughout the Par 72 course offers up a challenge for all golfers measuring 6,708 meters.

Oceânico Old Course

The Old Course is set in the heart of the golfing heaven of Vilamoura - 20 mins from Faro airport - and is a picturesque parkland course renowned by fellow golfers as the finest Portugal has to offer.

27 years after being opened in 1969 the course was renovated and modernised although the original layout was left untouched.

Oceânico Victoria Course

The Victoria course is regarded as 'The jewel in the crown' of The Oceanico courses and you can see and feel why as soon as you arrive. Home of The European Tours Portugal Masters The Victoria's impressive club house and facilities are not really taken in until you are further away from the building.
