Picking major winners is not easy but the cream usually rises to the top. Here are the 10 players who should be fighting it out for the title come Sunday at the 2026 PGA Championship.
Rory McIlroy
The best golfer Europe has ever produced doesn’t have a care in the world and will fancy winning this for a third time. Full of confidence and self-belief.

Scottie Scheffler
Not having the season he would have wanted. But here’s the thing - he keeps contending. Managed to finish a shot behind McIlroy at Augusta with his B-game.

Matt Fitzpatrick
The man of the moment. Should have won The Players but has made up for that in style with victories at the Valspar, RBC Heritage and Zurich Classic. Wondrous putting touch.

Viktor Hovland
You just never know what you are going to get with Hovland. He could be brilliant or he could start with an 80 and miss the cut.

Bryson DeChambeau
DeChambeau will, as usual, try to bring the course to its knees with his incredible power. Remains to be seen whether it catches him out again. Will go close or be nowhere.

Ludvig Aberg
Aberg is turning into something of an enigma. He swings the club beautifully, has a fabulous temperament but has developed a habit of stumbling at crucial times.

Tommy Fleetwood
There would be no more popular winner than the Englishman, now surely the best current player without a major to his name. As always with him it all depends on the short stick.

Tyrrell Hatton
Hatton simply loves playing in majors. The problem is that they test his patience to the limit and he has thus far been found wanting. But he keeps knocking at the door.

Xander Schauffele
Not far from the form that took him to both this title and The Open Championship two years ago. Has struggled with injury but is now looking like a winner in waiting again.
Odds: 16/1
Cameron Young
His victory at the Players Championship came as no surprise and he also came close at The Masters. A big hitter and a terrific iron player who sometimes loses patience on the greens.
