What the club says: The O'Meara Course
The 1998 Open and Masters champion Mark O'Meara has constructed a stunning course at Carton House that's made especially good use of the existing mature woodland. Of particular note are holes 13, 14 and 15 which are guarded by the River Rye, with the 14th capturing the beautiful Shell Cottage as a backdrop.
18 holes. Par 72. 7006 yards. Parkland.

The Montgomerie Course
Using the natural contours of the land and adopting the classic features of the great links courses combined with the experience of growing up on the seaside tracks of Scotland, Colin has produced a golf course that will stand the test of time as one of the great Irish courses. Recognition has been swift - The Montgomerie Course has already been selected to host the 2005 Irish Open showing it to be a course with a superb reputation as well as one with great potential.
18 holes. Par 72. 7245 yards. Inland

A great course with some tough bunkers. Very open course. Good for testing new clubs. Would definitely play again

Superb course, tough and more bunkers than I have ever seen on a golf course. Great challenge and so quiet. Really is worth a visit and will go again!

Played both Montgomerie and O'Meara again this year. Both courses in great condition and this time around, with my game in better shape, I found the Montgomerie more enjoyable, even with a score of 34 points. Although not as pretty as the O'Meara, it's a much more challenging course and a stroke saver or GPS is vital to plot your way around the numerous bunkers.

Very hard course to choose for the first round of the year. Made much worse in 60mph winds and sideways rain for half the round. Playing the 515 yard 8 th up hill into the wind is hardly even golf.

I felt this course was too manufacture (especially compared to the many other courses in the area). Far too many bunkers. There was a big competition there the morning we played and we were consequently treated like second class citizens, despite the amount we'd paid, again in total contrast to all the other friendly great clubs in the area.
