What the club says: This world famous championship course was designed by the legendary Robert Trent Jones Snr. and played host to the Ryder Cup in 1997. It was listed as the number one in Spain by Golf Digest Magazine (USA) in 2005 and is filled with prestige. Each hole has six tees and was made with all handicappers in mind but the crosswinds make it tough to conquer from any of the tees. It is kept in immaculate condition and provides a challenging round every time. The par five 17th is the signature hole as it features strategically placed bunkers behind a green that slopes forwards to an emerald lake. It has been the scene of many a title won and lost.

SUPERB!
Great course, with a lot of class. Great staff, & course in great shape. Buggies & Green fees are pricey, but you get what you pay for....!(Round played: Oct 2017 - Score: 97 Handicap: 14.2)

(Round played: Nov 2016 - Score: 98 Handicap: 17.8)

(Round played: Sep 2014 - Score: 104 Handicap: 15.6)

I have obviously rated value for money as excellent because I never had to fork out the 275 Euros, but the area of Sotogrande has it's fair share of wealthy club swishers. Hence the green fee deters the ordinary chap who fancies a few rounds of San Miguel in the 19th.
Overall the course was a delight to play, the seventeenth destroyed me and I can confirm the water level in the lake was higher after I dumped most of my balls in it! Had the camera tower been behind the 11th hole as it was on the day of the Masters, I may have got away with my shot through the green, and the spectators would have helped by treading down some of the rough I found on the edge of the fairways. These pro's have it easy you know!
Something else I noticed as well, nobody was following me round filling in any left divot holes with green sand

No course is worth 275 euros and it is because of the new money which has allowed the game to prosper , has had this detrimental effect on green fees.
Sotogrande old is also an excellent course and was already well established.

Wih tight fairways overhung by plentiful cork oaks and well guarded greens that are undulating and very, very fast, valderrama is a very stern test. From the yellow tees the course is not at all long but accuracy and distance control are vital to avoid large numbers. Hit to the wrong part of the green and 3 putts could ba a good result.
Every hole is a joy to behold, scenic beauty, tremendous design and the best course manicuring outside of North America, this course is not cheap at 275 euros, but i for one feel it is worth every penny. I dont expect to ever play a better golf course.
