What the club says: Set in 140 acres in one of the most beautiful areas of Gwent, Woodlake Park overlooks the spectacular Llandegfedd reservoir, the Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains and the Vale of Usk. The championship standard course has a par of 72 and standard scratch of 72. Located just 15 minutes from Newport, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Having not played here for a good 8nyears It was pleasing to find it was as good as I remembered. Testing layout and the views of the reservoir are exceptional

Challenging and beautiful

Picturesque course

Well worth the visit.
Importantly, a very warm welcome from the staff and members here.Not the longest I've played but it is deceptive. The course has been designed very much in keeping with the contours of its surroundings. Don't expect a lot of flat lies.
No temporary greens and they were in very good condition.
All the tee off positions were temporary however.
Will definitely be back.

Not to be missed
This is a very hilly course and as such quite physical to get around. Don't let that put you off. Get a buggy if necessary but don't miss this course and its amazing views.A difficult and tricky round ahead but the condition of the course is top notch. Best course in South Wales
One of my favourite courses in Wales - the greens are as good as you will play anywhere proper USGA standard, very fast greens which hold a high hit ball. All holes are quite tough and the views of the Brecon Beacons and the reservoir are ones to savour. Always try to fit this course in if you visit South Wales - you will not be disappointed.(Round played: Sep 2017 - Score: 85 Handicap: 14)

A splendid course offering a splendid challenge to the progressing/learner golfer. Excellent 'thinking' greens, certain touch required.
Excellent value for money special twilight (after 3.00pm) buggy deal £74 - 4 hours thorough enjoyment for less that £20 can't be bad.

The course has some interesting holes and a lot of character, to go with great views of the surroundings. With that being said, the fairways were not well kept at all, the grass was very long in places, which meant that we were losing a lot of balls from good tee offs! Given the time of the year, we expected frosty greens, but nothing had been done to help with the ice that was on top of them which made putting a nightmare.
A good course, would love to play again in the summer, but doubt I will be back down in Monmouthsire anytime soon.

Nice course however over 5 hours for a 6,000 yeard course is not great fun. APpreciate a society keeps a club running but stronger course management needed especiaally when 3 gorups waiting on a tee for a par 3.

Considering the time of yera the course was in pucker condition with the greens as slick and challenging as ever. Highly recommend this gem to any keen golfers.

I've been playing different courses in the Cardiff and Newport area recently and can safely say this is one of the best around. A real hidden gem!
The greens are immaculate - really true and a high standard. The members are all really nice and polite too, something you don't always find at courses these days.
Only possible downside is the location in terms of you really have to go through some narrow winding lanes to get there.
All in all I'd really recommend playing this course, and will without doubt be returning for another round.
