What The Club Says
Upton by Chester Golf Club is an 18 hole traditional parkland course noted for its mature tree lined fairways and USGA standard greens. Built in 1934 as a 9 hole course, the 18 hole course you see today was originally mapped out by the eminent golf architect Mr J E Hassell during the winters of 1935-1937.

Short but tricky parkland course.
May be biased as this is my home course but this short but tricky layout is anything but easy. Since new green staff have come in the course is in great condition, though does struggle with drainage in the winter. That being said, work is ongoing to improve this. The club pro is excellent in terms of stock and teaching. Clubhouse is good but tired in some areas but new catering teams leave me optimistic. Great parkland course that's exceptionally affordable.Reviewer Rating

Nice course worth playing
First time playing this course, friendly welcome in clubhouse and pro shop. Decent practice facilities. Course in decent condition, greens nice if a little slow. Some hard par 3s especially 15th and 17th. Worth playing a round here for sure.Reviewer Rating

very tight indeed
played here after a gap of many years, I had forgotten just how tight it is. Drives require great accuracy, you pay heavily for a slice or a pull. Pin positions rather peculiar, some just six feet from the edge. Very irritated to be given a ticking off by a groundsman for playing off white tees, there was nothing to say don’t and, outside the top courses, most places don’t mind which tees you use, including my own very highly rated club. No way to treat a visitor. Members, pro and bar staff very pleasant.Reviewer Rating

Tired and in poor condition
We played this as part of a weekend away and were not impressed. It's only slightly better than a municipal. Lots of GUR, poor bunkers and rough areas and generally in a tired condition. Didn't hang around much afterwards.Reviewer Rating

Tight course
This is quite a tight course with some challenging tee shots for high handicap players. Greens were generally in good condition. A lot of work taking place on bunkers so they were GUR. Enjoyed my round.Reviewer Rating

Barman/Manager although only doing his job with current conditions, very rude and had no understanding of who had just walked off the course or not from our group. ( had not told the golfer “twice already” to be a metre apart, as he’d just walked off)
