What the club says: Since opening for play in 1907, Thorpe Hall has proved to be a fair but stimulating test for golfers of all abilities.
Although modest in length by the standards of modern course design, recent additional fairway bunkers give longer hitters pause for thought while the ever present mature trees that line the majority of the fairways provide the main defence of the course against all players. A wayward tee shot into the trees can often be costly on the scorecard.

Absolute carnage!
Turned up to play with a member at 10:30 on a Saturday as guests cannot play until 11:00. Walked to the 1st tee to be met by a 40 person queue as there is no booking system. This was made even worse by people that teed off on the 10th cutting in. We had to wait 50 mins before teeing off and every tee box after that was met with a 10 minute wait. The round took over 5 hours.Apart from that carnage the course was in great condition. Greens were great. Clubhouse is welcoming.
I asked the pro after why there was no booking system. He said that the older members believe it is their inherent right to be able to play whenever they want. He also said that every weekend is the same. Honestly will not be visiting again unless a booking system is put in place.

Spectacular Afternoons Golf
At my sisters course played the brilliant Thorpe Hall.It was in wonderful condition and the Greens and tees were perfect.
Despite a brief downpour, the round was everything you want in golf, great condition, company and so very peaceful..bliss

Top Notch Course and Club
On a beautiful afternoon in late May, it was fantastic to get out on one of the best courses and clubs in Essex, its a gem of a course, difficult and long (over 6000yards off the yellows) and in fatastic condition. Stay on the fairway they said as the rough is very difficult to get out of...no kidding. Could not fault the course just my driving. Highly recommended to anyone to try it. Its expensive to non members (£45) but worth it IMHO.(Round played: May 2021 - Score: 99 Handicap: 20.1)

Great track, amazing fairways
Loved this course. Long enough to use the driver but tight enough to be really challenging. Some amazing holes, big drivers can drive a few greens (hitting 300 to 330 yards). Greens quick and challenging but true.Reviewer Rating

Proper Golf club
Really well maintained and everyone was very friendly.Tight course but challenging. Was very wet but nevertheless was in good condition.
The 4 winter greens were of a high standard. Love the place

Great Course

Fantastic course
In top condition at the moment. Greens are very quick.A course to think your way round as it's quite tight and there are plenty of holes where the driver has to stay in the bag.
Position is everything.
It's also very flat so little strain getting round.

This is the first time this year I have seen a green course in England. The tee's are excellent and the fairways have a nice layer of grass so the ball sits up well. The greens were a fraction slow (although it was early evening) but ran slow and received a ball well. The course is not too long, but there are plenty of trees to penalise a wayward tee shot. There are some well positioned bunkers to catch a mis-hot shot. The last three holes are a nice, interesting finish with a tight par 3, dogleg par 4 and straight short par 4.

Excellent course in superb condition. My father is a member here and I can see why!
Super-slick greens, that really test every level.
Cant wait to play here again!
Shame visitors are restricted to just 5 times a year - even as a guest!

Really enjoyed playing this course 3 weeks ago.The 1st 6 holes are really good and different variety of holes.The greens and bunkers are top notch,probably 2nd best we have played on.Would defo come again because you wasnt allowed to play here,normally members only.i shot 87 so quiet happy

Amazing greens. Really hard to ready the subtle breaks though. Really tough in places and not every par 4 requires a driver. Lovely mixture of testing holes. A joy to play.

Member for 4 years then had a gap of 2 years but joined again as the course is in very good condition and is local. Some fairways can be tight.
