What The Club Says

St Kew is a nine hole, eighteen tee course and driving range. Our friendly club is situated on the edge of St Kew Highway, approx 3 miles north of Wadebridge, this little gem was the brain child of a farmer, John Brown, who still runs the business with his wife Fay.

Sad state

I played here some years ago when the course was fairly new but sadly it has not matured well. It looked to me to be on the verge of closing down. The tees were like deep rough, you couldn’t actually tee up with the ball above the grass unless you used one of the terrible overgrown mats. The fairways were like rough really, no chance of the drive rolling a single yard. Bunkers utterly abandoned, greens not too bad (relatively speaking). It wasn’t worth £13 for nine holes. It’s sad really as I expect there are loyal happy members, but it really can’t be recommended to anyone who takes golf at all seriously. Not a single other player on a nice sunny morning. I can’t see it recovering and feel sorry for the place.

If I had not phoned ahead and just turned up I would have genuinely thought that the place had closed down. Everything about it, the clubhouse, the surrounding area, the paths., fairways., tee box, steps up to the tee box all looked totally abandoned.
The owners, who do seem a really nice couple had arrived at the same time and took my money, usually an honesty box is used, otherwise I would have looked around and left thinking it the course/club can't be in use anymore.
Having paid and walked around the back of the clubhouse and seen the state of the course I was shocked ( the owners had eft).
The non existent fairways were basically rough from and including the tee box all way to the greens.
Surprisingly the greens had been cut but weren't up to much of a standard., similar to how some winter greens are when a piece of the fairway is used at some courses.
I do understand how difficult it has been to get machinery on to cut fairways but this course looked like it had been neglected for a very long time.
Very disappointed that it was still classed as open and I was charged for it.

Ideal layout for what we required but very poorly presented. The fairways hadn’t been cut and it was indistinguishable from the rough. We lost 8 balls which I presume were in the fairway, 1 which was within 10 yards of the the green. Such a shame as my 2 boys are learning the game and just got frustrated. They can lose balls easily enough without losing one one in the middle of the fairway.

Poor

Unfortunately I hate too say it but it’s really bad now for the price it’s really not worth it . It’s such a shame as we love the place but we will now be going to Trethorn as it’s a better course for the money

great value course

£!0 for round of 9 holes. Very friendly staff and golfers made us feel welcome.Course in good condition except for a few of the bunkers which were overgrown and untendered. Some of the greens were cracked but of course this is due to the hot summer.Overall would highly recommend this shorter than average course.

Nice short course greens aren't the best around the edges but other than that it's in good condition. Playing of a different tee second time round makes for a interesting round
