Interrupted Round of Golf

Four of us played at St. Austell last Friday. The course was in good condition and the buggies provided were very modern. We had played six holes and were enjoying our golf. There was a lady playing on her own behind us and we asked her a few times if she wanted to play through our four ball. She refused saying she was happy to play out her nine hole practice round behind us.
However there were 7 pairs of female players behind her in a club competition. On our first encounter with the leading couple came on the 7th tee. One of the ladies told us of their competition, its importance, saying that we were expected to let them play through.(At this stage they were 2 holes behind us).
On the 8th tee we were approached by another lady further back. She marched towards us to tell us the same story. We were fed up of this hassle and decided to go to the pro shop for advice. We agreed to take a break for coffee and were given a new tee off time for the 2nd nine. We arrived on time at the 10th tee to restart our round. Two ladies had just teed off and one walked back to tell us that the ladies competition had not finished. We listened to what she had to say and continued on with our game. We had one more confrontation with a lady golfer from another hole, but again carried on with our golf. As we played the short par 3 sixteenth hole, a couple of ladies came from the fifteenth green and jumped the sixteenth to play the seventeenth hole in front of us.
All of this we found very annoying, very rude and unfriendly.

The Best of the Rest

Cornwall is blessed with so many outstanding courses, we looked beyond the more well known venues and were not disappointed, this is a gem! They have recently refurbished the locker rooms and made many course improvements. We received a friendly welcome and thoroughly enjoyed a challenging and well presented if not long (Par 69) course. Excellent facilities from the range to the aladdin's cave of a Pro Shop! Will return. soon!

Well worth a visit

Despite playing in the winter the course was in very good condition. You could see the work being done by the green keepers. Excellent practice facilities, a good driving range, putting green and chipping green as also. Well worth the visit for anyone in the area. Will be heading back for another round soon

An enjoyable experience

Played here in early November, after heavy rain the day before, and was pleasantly surprised to find the course in great condition especially the greens that I found tick to read but gave a true roll.
I found some of the holes were quite quirky but interesting all the same and would play the course again if in the area.

A great course, well laid out with great views across the surrounding countryside. Not the longest course, with only one par 5, but you have to think your way round in a number of places.
Also in fantastic condition for January, the greens were exceptional.

Lovely mature hilltop course in fantastic condition with great views over surrounding countryside. Fairways superb and greens were excellent. One of the best courses I\'ve played in the West Country - highly recommended and I will certainly be visiting again. I did get a little disorientated on the 3rd tee but that\\\\\\\'s a minor detail.\\\\I played this morning (Wednesday) and virtually had the course to myself apart from being invited to join two members for the last 4 holes - thanks Pete and Mike!\\\\7th Oct 2015 handicap 19.0 gross score 82

Good hill top course in fantastic condition which was helped by great weather. Enjoyed a delightful meal in the welcoming clubhouse after my round and couldn\'t resist another visit to what must be one of the best stocked golf shops I have been in. I was like a kid in a sweet shop! \Value for money 10/10
Only issue was the green fee's are higher than advertised here but was told this website has still got last years fee's advertised.

Everyone we met at this club was very friendly and helpful; I\'d go as far as to say this is the friendliest club I have experienced. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition, though the slowness of some greens took a bit of getting used to. I wish I had hired an electric trolley as the pull trolley was quite cumbersome, especially for a female, and a warm, muggy day turned undulations into the Alps - and my home course is hilly!\The views are wonderful and the catering is good. Nice to find a thriving club that isn\'t up its own proverbial.

A thouroughly enjoyable course, but open to the wind. Plenty of trees but not too punishing on wayward shots. The greens were superb. Quick and true. No real standout hole and the par 3 16th is a half flick with a wedge!!
I would definitely play again, despite a not particularly warm welcome in the clubhouse, post round.
