What The Club Says

The Donald Steel designed Mill Ride opened for play in 1990 and is often described as having the characteristics of both links and parkland styles. Set in the grounds of a 175 acre private estate, the course winds itself expertly around seven lakes and has matured beautifully over the last fifteen years. Host to many championships including events on the European Seniors Tour and the Southern Region PGA Championship, this challenging course is also a regular hang out for lots of top European Tour golfers. The par 3 11th hole is one of the finest in Berkshire; at 175 yards over water with a shallow green, it is a genuine card wrecker.

Beautiful settings with enough doglegs and water to force you to carefully plot your way around the course. The Halfway House is a welcomed refreshment and reflection point on how you have performed and on what's to come!

Unfortunately holes 16 & 17 were closed for maintenance on the day I played the course which distracted from an otherwise enjoyable day of golf at a new course for me.

Drainage poor

I know there's been a lot of rain this year but buggies still not allowed. When you're 65+ it can be difficult carrying clubs or dragging a trolley round. Drainage is poor on this course unfortunately and quite a few bunkers have no sand. This course is brilliant when dry but needs a lot more work on sorting the drainage.

Mill Ride

A good challenging course. Its the first time i have played it and would return for a round when the weather is better. The course was a bit boggy when i played early December. Facilities good.

Challenging course

Challenging course for high handicappers but still manageable. Par 3s can be awkward especially those over water. The course fairways and greens are in great condition at the moment but there are problems with drainage after rainfall but they are addressing this and the course is improving year on year. Fairly open course so as long as you're not too wayward you shouldn't be searching for your ball very often. The greens can be difficult too, obviously depending where you land and the flag position but it makes thye game more interesting - especially if you get on the green for 2 and end up 3 putting!. Buggies generally not allowed after heavy rainfall so always check before attending the course if you need one, even if it's booked. Also check the new weighting board beforehand to see how many extra shots you get. There's a great halfway house where you can pick up drinks and snacks - always useful (and often necessary) if you're walking the course. I've played this course many times and love it.

Great condition

Great course, very challenging, staff first class and very helpful. The food was excellent. Greens were spot on best around for the cost.
