What the club says: The Mendip Golf Club has come a long way since relocating to its current site back in 1908. With its fairways of springy downland turf, "Mendip" boasts lies that some golfers can only dream about.

Sad

Played a few times in early 2000s, I remember a lovely manicured course with character, the fast pure ,tricky greens and perfect fairways.
Fist thing I noticed was the complete destruction of all the trees that surrounded the first tee, complete loss of character and ruined what was a lovely first tee setting.
This theme continued with the course looking bare, with most of removal of hedgerows and many trees.
The fairways that i remember being almost springy and some of the best I’ve ever played on even in winter now seemed know no different than any course (very wet).
The trend continued for the worse, with spongy and terribly slow greens and to top it all off a very strange set of new holes, the new 17th was a horrible hole, replacing what I remember as a lovely elevated par 3.
All in all a disappointing day, rounded off by unhelpful miserable bar staff.
I hope this course can get back to former glory’s as it’s a shadow of what I remember, a perfect example of how a change is not always for the better!
I’d like to go back in summer to give it a chance, but the good winter course I remember is now a thing of the past.

The Best golf course in North Somerset

Really challenging members golf course on top of The Mendip Hills at Gurney Slade off the A37. Beautiful undulating, springy, fabulous heathland fairways with tremendous views over the Vale of Avalon, Glastonbury Tor and the Bristol Channel. After a lot of hard work after the difficult winter of 17/18, the course has been in fabulous condition over the very hot summer and now through the autumn and into winter. The greens are a real challenge in the summer with their speed and slopes, and remain open in the winter unless there is a heavy frost. No winter tees here either. Great combination of exercise, views and challenging golf make days here a great experience to warm the heart. The Pro Team, led by Stuart Disney is great and the clubhouse and members very friendly and welcoming. Enjoy.

Fabulous course, fabulous views

I last played this course perhaps 15 years ago and I had completely forgotten what a fantastic course it is. The views all round are stunning; the Somerset levels, the Mendips, North Devon, Wales....
The course is demanding with plants of hidden dangers even on some of the wider fairways.
A friendly welcome and thoroughly recommended.

Recently played this course after visiting a number of years ago. I arrived to a quite apologetic professional shop, which I remember being excellent, but now in sale awaiting a new professional. \Myself and a friend tee\'d off on an early spring day and I could not believe this was the same course I had played before. Fairways were strewn with unreplaced divots, patchy muddy rough and ropes everywhere. The greens here used to be excellent, they are now uncut, bumpy and looked to be very diseased with lots of discolouration and a tinge of yellow. \There are some great holes on this course so the condition is a real shame, but also lots of bunkers, rough and trees seem to have been removed reducing the look of the course. \Post round I discovered the long standing green keeper had been replaced and since standards appear to have dropped. Food was also expensive and not that great. \I hope this course returns to its prior self as it is a good track with wonderful views that I enjoyed as long as I didn\'t look down
