What the club says: The course dates back to 1936 when Henry Cotton, Jimmy Adams, R.A.Whitcombe and Alfred Padgham played a superb exhibition match to mark the official opening. When the golf course designers moved on to the site in 1936 they found a wealth of natural features despite the basic flatness of the area. There are two or three small but significant changes in level and some marvelous sweeping contours in the terrain as it moves from open countryside through trees, bushes and shrubs. Although the setting and the entire nature of the course is parkland, there is something of a links quality about the turf, no doubt stemming from close contact with the sea that this stretch of country enjoyed for centuries.

Senior Open

We played in the Ham manor open this year in May, it was a great day and i could not recommend it highly enough. The course was in great condition, especially considering the dry weather we have had this spring, the green keeper had work really hard to keep the course in tip top condition. The organisation, food and club house facilities were great. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to play golf in Sussex.

Ham Manor GC Seniors Open May 2025

I have played in a number of event at Ham Manor and am happy to do so even though my club has reciprocal arrangements with Ham Manor. The events are always very well organised and this one was no exception.

The reception is always welcoming with staff working hard to ensure everything runs smoothly and the starter was very hospitable and chatty.

The course was in exceptional condition especially given the dry conditions we have had

The buffet after play had plenty on offer for the after game meal

The only slight down side are the prizes which could have more of a golf influence but this did not detract from the day and wil not stop us going back next year...we have already requested a space for next year.

Played Ham Manor on Saturday 18 August and was very disappointed. Tee boxes very poor, greens slow and some greens diseased. Seem to be more worried about improvements to 9th than the rest of the course!! Don’t waste your money!

Clubhouse was great but the service not, they advertised buggies were on but when we got there suddenly they were off for the day and 3 temporary greens! No discount on the green fee and a very rude pro shop staff we took our money to Littlehampton GC. Our group will never return here.

Played here mid November really baf experience charged full price despite an offer on Facebook. Shop staff were rude and unhelpful. Surely if a golf club is on Facebook making offerstheir 'professional' staff should know what is going on. To make it worse I could not find a manager as needed a code for the club house!
After a small argument our small group went out on a wet golf course with bunkers full of leaves and temporary greens and played 14 holes. After that we all said we would make a quick escape to never return.

The course has quite a few challenges with long par 4's even tho it is rather flat. The last hole has an interesting green but other than that wending your way thru the Ham Manor estate on the front 9 does add something to it. On my third visit was met by a slightly offish member while waiting my turn on the 1st tee. Was impressed with the club house but the selection for a lunch time snack was rather limited.

A pretty parkland layout with many good holes. We finished with clean, dry shoes in late November after several days of intermittent rain, so this course is very playable in winter. This members' club has all the facilities and a well stocked pro shop with friendly, helpful staff. The only glitch was the necessity to beg for a code to access a toilet. For the ladies this will also mean a treck upstairs in the clubhouse, only to discover that you need yet another, different, code to get in. Back to the pro shop...sigh... We will nevertheless be back to play this great course again, especially now that we know the toilet drill.

The course dates back to 1936. Although the setting and the entire nature of the course is parkland, there is something of a links quality about the turf - good fairway lies and true, even paced greens.

The front nine wends it way through the Ham Manor Estate and is bordered by some lovely properties.
The back nine is completely rural with pleasant and tranquil views over the surrounding farmland and downs. The par of 70 is not easy to beat for although there are only two par fives they are both over 500 yards long and the short holes range from 143 to more than 200 yards. In addition there are several par fours in excess of 400 yards.

I didn't spend much time in the clubhouse so can't really comment upon that. A great website though.
