What the club says: The exposed first eight holes are pure Scottish links, immediately adjacent to the beach, and the second ten holes are parkland providing a variable challenge. This latter part has the added interest of the river, from which the town takes its name, winding through the fairways to its final destination in the Firth of Clyde. Care should be taken on the ninth tee, as this hole is named after the gentleman who stepped back to admire a good drive only to take an unscheduled dip in the Girvan.

Strong features of this course are the fairly long par threes, all usually exacerbated by the prevailing SW wind. There are four par threes on the front nine and four on the back, if you dont score well on these your score is wrecked. If you score well on Girvan you have played very well indeed!

Council owned and doesn't have the footfall of some of the other Ayrshire courses, proper links front 8, rock solid fairways and nice enough greens, back 10 are very well kept, a nice layout and definitely an enjoyable round for sure.

This little links course is a challengebeing next to the sea for the first half of your game. If you get a breeze off the sea it can become a challenging course, but the second half plays like a woodland couirse with some tricky holes but again a nice course if you want a challenge and a day out try girvan. Would i play it again yes.

Worth a visit

Was pleaseasantly surprised by this small course ( par64) tucked away amongst the houses yet nestling up against the Irish Sea. Turnberry's famous courses are about a mile away and although Girvan is not in the same league it is an interesting golf course .The first 8 run along the coast and whilst mostly par 3 's they do offer a challenge as most are over 220 yards. The back 9 switches to parkland . All the rough is penal and straight hitters are advised to leave the driver in the back. Greens were in excellent condition. The starter Graham - first class
The clubhouse looked after by Fiona when I was there ensured a warm welcome and the locals joined in the golf conversation
Altogether a pleasant experience completed in brilliant sunshine

Good challenging par 64,which is deceiving as a few of the par 3's are over 200yds. Tough in the wind ,but a decent layout of 8 links holes along the coast, then you cross the road and the other 10 are parkland.drivable 16,very tough uphill par 3 17th,and flick over the trees at 18 provide a nervy finish for the players. Greens were decent with a good true roll and overall the course was in good condition for one under council ownership.

The wind played a big part on our round. The course is well laid out although the rough could do with some attention in parts. No yardage markers are visable,go by the yardage on your score card.Apart from this the course is in good condition.
