What the club says: The Old Course is set amongst some beautiful parkland and it really is a hidden gem of Kent and Surrey, this par 71 course is under new ownership and undergoing changes to the clubhouse, with investment in the course planned.

The course has some challenging holes, least not for the water that encompasses many of the holes of this magnificent 18 hole golf course, you are bound to lose a few golf balls on your way round, our 15th is ideal for that tricky nearest the pin, it is our signature hole, it is surrounded by water, or the 5th tee where you drive off in Kent and Putt out in Surrey.

I regret to say that this is the worst course I have ever had the misfortune to play at, it has certainly seen beter days. The fact the car park was empty when we arrived at 8am spoke volumes. The lay out is very good but the tee's and greens need a LOT of TLC. Perhaps the groundsmen have been on furlough I dont know, but for sure we won't be back.

Tough course needs some tlc

Course was tricky the greens were terrible mud patches and tufts of grass. Would recommend avoiding until they fix the greens. Luckily it was a very cheap round.

Tough course for high handicappers

Tough course for high handicappers. Lots of long grass, water and tight fairways. Reasonably priced

Better than expected

I played the K and S today and was very pleasantly surprised, the new owners have obviously invested considerable time and effort in to getting the course playable. The greens are really coming back, the fairways and roughs are well cut, bunkers in good shape. There's still a way to go, but it's a massive improvement from 6 months ago when I would not have paid to play on the course, now £25 weekend rate seems decent value, the membership rates are good too so may even join up

Please ignore previous bad reviews

Whilst looking for a course to play, I checked out K&S and a lot of the reviews were negative or just bad. I checked out the green fees and at ?18 for a midweek round I thought it was worth a punt.
I'm glad I did. I thought course was excellent. Well laid out with a good mixture of holes such as the long 575 yard Par 5 and some good long Par 3's. Some holes gave you options from the Tee so brave players can go over Trees or the corner of a field to go for Birdies or you could manage a round and play it safer.
The condition of the course was excellent, the fairways well kept nice neat and were wide for some forgiveness from wayward shots, with the first level of rough being just right and the long rough being spot on too. This had been a huge criticism in the reviews I read. It has been addressed excellently. The Greens although look patchy it does not affect the run of the ball at all which when I played were running medium/fast. The Greens had enough undulations to make you think a) when approaching the Green where to play to and b) when on the Green how to play it. This made putting for me very enjoyable (only 2 3 putts in the round).
Around the course plenty of ponds and streams to make you think about your shots whether to lay up or go for it which for me made it even more enjoyable. One hole you have to Tee off through a quite narrow corridor of trees to get to the fairway which gives a little extra challenge especially for those who can sometime be wayward off the Tee.
My only small moan about the course would be that on some holes there was no 150 marker post which isn't the end of the world because it just makes use your judgement more. Also a couple of holes needed signs to point to the next hole. Yet again not a huge issue and only on a couple of holes. But the next Tee was never far away and easy enough to find without the signs.
It was a quiet Thursday afternoon when I went out, there was no pressure from other players so I could take my time with out worrying and more than enough time to drop and play a 2nd practice ball if I messed up my scoring shots. This may not always be the case (I'm sure weekends are far busier) but it was when I played.
The club facilities were good. The Clubhouse is big and well kept and functional , the changing rooms (well the men's at least) were clean bright neat and tidy with access from outside or through the Clubhouse. There didn't seem to be a club shop (which was good so I couldn't spend needlessly) but that was fine. Also I did not eat there or even look at the menu (which I should have seeing as I am a Chef) so can't comment further.
The staff were really nice, friendly and helpful, as were the guests in the Clubhouse who all said hello and pointed me in the right directions.
The K&S changed ownership in the not too distant past and the new owners are doing an excellent job of reviving the whole place. Therefore at present the Driving Range was completely out of action and a practice green was being developed, from what I could see it just needed the holes drilled and it would be ready.
Overall for me at ?18 for a midweek round (I teed at 1.40) the K&S is amazing value. I loved it (and will definitely play again) and I would recommend everyone to get down there because the way the Club is improving I can't see the cost staying at ?18 forever. But I do think that any increase, as long as it is not ridiculous would still be great value.
So ignore the bad reviews give it a go you won't be disappointed.

Course was fairly well maintained but the greens were in awful state. Speaking with the new owner that have just taken over, they have more greens man starting. Wouldn't go back or recommend until this has been sorted.

could be so good

A well designed course with some interesting and excellent challenging holes. But let down by very poor greens and general lack of course maintenance. Fairways need better mowing and bunkers are in poor condition.

Excellent course Layout
The course is is really bad condition greens/tees/fairways
there was a note in the bar warning you that the greens are being done but they did not mention this when i booked it
They seem to be spending money on the cluchouse and not on the course
will be playing again but not for a fews years until they sort the course condition out
still not bad for £19 for a two ball

Could be great but needs work

This course has a great layout which would test any golfer with options to play in various different ways, BUT, it requires some serious attention, in places it is cracked so badly balls can take a 90 degree bounce so good shots can be heavily penalised here. Would play again only if conditions improved.

Give it a go

Played using groupon voucher £30 4 ball. Course not in perfect condition greens not brilliant some bunkers overgrown with weeds and fairways showing the signs of our long hot summer. Having said all that still enjoyed the round, a tough test of golf , if you are going to play here take plenty of balls we lost nearly 30 to the trees, ponds and ditches. Not sure if i would play here for the full green fee of £30 but if you get a groupon or some other deal well worth a visit.

Making a comeback

It's obvious the course has been through some tough times, but contrary to what most reviews say it is worth a shot - the recent rain has greened up the fairways and greens, which although they still work are perfectly playable. The bunkers are all in play now and have a good amount of sand in them ... the fairways were all cut nicely. There is a temporary tee on the back 9, the new tee (hope it opens soon) looks great and will change the hole considerably.

I would say ignore the reviews from July and prior, for not much money you can play a decent course and have some good food after!

Facilities are ok, but it looks like management are investing to improve so i guess give it time.
