What The Club Says
Set in a very attractive woodland area in the North Yorkshire District of Selby, Drax Golf Club is a real hidden gem!
The layout of the course makes it manageable for a beginner, ideal for the casual golfer, but still offers a difficult challenge even for the more skilful players because of its narrow fairways, variety of trees, hazards and testing greens which are renowned in the Yorkshire area.

Really poor Golf Course
Parking available in the social club car park, a walk along a road with cars and trucks milling past you at 40 mph. Particularly concerning with junior members.Very poor practice green and driving cage, the chipping green is not too bad. 12 hole course, with 18 hole rounds causes problems when busy. A lack of etiquette from members including club level members seen over the 18 months of playing, including approach to junior members on the course and level of tracksuits and players ‘practicing’ on the course.
Various dog shows on at the Social club and together with the Drax biomass trains running adjacent, it’s anything but peaceful.
Recently the hearts fencing on various holes have been removed, together with the mound of hardcore that you needed to cross to get to a tee box, it’s all akin to a building site.
The summer it’s busy, those leaving the 12th to play the 1st as the 13th can be hostile, and it required the GC to state that those on the 1st tee had priority. Again, issues with large groups and those not on the BRS on the course, those who just jibbed in.
The winter it is a write off, a nightmare well hidden.
Best avoided. Much better and welcoming courses around in North and East Yorkshire.

Great Little Course - Hidden away
This is a beautifully maintained course which offers challenges for all levels of golfer. Fairways and Greens are in excellent condition. There is so much care taken with the course which makes me believe they have a wonderful team of Greenkeepers.Excellent value for money, they welcome all visitors , you can practice your short game and putting and you can enjoy food and drink in the Social Club after the game so, all round you can enjoy an excellent golf day

A remarkable surprise
When someone mentions the word "Drax", a golf club probably isn't the first thing most think of. Nestled in the shadow of a major UK power station, Drax Golf Club really lives up to it's nickname as "Yorkshire's Hidden Gem".The course is meticulously maintained by a small team of greenkeepers and volunteers who clearly love their golf course. The greens as are close to USGA as you could get without the actual foundations to use the name. Some would even say 'perfect', even the flattest greens take a good read to get the right putt.
It's evident the club are investing wisely in their future with new drainage added to holes 2, 6 and 7 in recent years.
This is clearly a club going from strength to strength and a must play in the Yorkshire region.

When we arrived at the social club car park to be met by Alan he took time to explain everything to us and was also there to meet us at the first tee to explain everything about the course .
Kevin who I had been in contact with throughout our booking was away on holiday but took the time to ring Alan and make sure everything was perfect on the day .
The course is an absolute credit to everyone involved Volunteers, Members and greenkeepers.

Exactly what golf should be
As an experienced golfer I can say that this course is very well maintained, an excellent routing with fun and memorable golf holes. However, I was compelled to leave this review because of the fantastic attitude of the staff at Drax (specifically Kevin Harrison). I played this course with my girlfriend for her first time on a golf course. Upon arrival I’ve never felt so welcomed at a golf club. Kevin introduced himself to me and my girlfriend, figured out the best way for us to get onto the course with as little pressure as possible (not easy given a club competition was going on), and all in all made my girlfriend feel at home on the golf course. He came and checked in with us as he walked past after 4 or so holes to check that we were enjoying ourselves.People like Kevin are exactly what golf needs right now to ensure that ladies feel welcomed into the golf world. Had my girlfriend had a different experience she may have walked away from the game, but instead she enjoyed herself thoroughly and is keen to play again.

Fairways terrible
Played at Drax in early Autumn after the hot summer and the greens were in fantastic condition but the fairways were terrible completely bald in several areas and very very patchy they had obviously been cut far too short during the drought and had basically died off badReviewer Rating
