TEX WILLIAMSON.

I have been playing this course for several years now, however each time I have played it "depending on the weather conditions " it plays so different. The new green keeper MARK SNEEP as really taken the course to new levels, and I can not wait for the summer period with the work he has done on the greens to take fruition. So congratulations to everyone of the many people who have been working on the course since the begining of the year, I for one thank you.

Hidden Beauty

Having heard from numerous sources of a "beautiful little course" just South of Selby I decided to give Drax a go. Not expecting too much initial, I was soon surprised to find what I would call a hidden beauty which needs the word spreading about.

The greens were fantastic and it was clear to see the greens staff taking great pride in their work as the tee boxes and fairways were also immaculate. There are a few querky holes with ponds and hazards to catch you out if you get complacent.

Definitely a recommend and I am telling everyone I know about it!

Visiting the Drax website they refer to the course as "Yorkshire's Hidden Gem" and to my surprise, they were right! Tucked away south of Selby I was very surprised at the course I had stumbled upon. The presentation of the course was fantastic with nicely manicured fairways and greens. the greens were a little slow but when speaking to a member of the committee who was very helpful in showing me around, I was made aware that a lot of maintenance had taken place in the past couple of weeks to get the greens in shape for the height of the season. My honest opinion is that the greens were some of the best I have played thus far in 2017 so I would love to see what they are like in the summer! This course turned out to be very quirky with some tight shots off the tee to nice wide fairways playing into difficult greens with very subtle movements that certainly tested you. The second hole is a great example of this where the green looks relatively flat, was I wrong! looking at the hole everything rolls left to right, and fast, even single handicappers would do well to stop a ball on that green, it is a real beauty. Another nice touch is the practise putting green and driving net which I didn't expect to see. It certainly helps blow off any cobwebs in a morning!] In all, I could go on about my amazing day at Drax, but in short, this is a must play course and one that I would come back to again and again

Drax Golf Club is a course where you have a total of 12 golf holes, and the difference are made up from existing holes, however they play from completely different tees. for example 5

Good Course, Bad Timing

First time trying the course and fairly new to golf, overall course is great if a little compact, the 18 is played over only 12/13 holes so you double over yourself a few times and it can be a little confusing which hole is next due to the layout. However the holes themselves are great, some down and uphill holes look great and really add to the challenge. We went at start of April and course could do with a few touch ups before the busy summer period i think, a few temp greens on some holes drag it down, with these temp greens not being maintained very well or of a suitable size, a bad end to some great holes. It says to check in at the bar before you start but we were told we didnt need to, instead walk to the course and have proof of purchase in case a course guide asks us.

Some Temp out of bound areas marked by wire construction fencing takes away from the look of some holes and the course overall, but i'd say in summer when hopefully all the greens are back in action, the other issues shouldnt be an issue, be sure to scout the course using apps and the guide beforehand as we needed it to find our way a few times. Will definitely be back but not straight away, it makes good use out of a small space for a good variety of courses, but the small space does bring its own issues. However for the price as (we got a hot deal of £20 in total for 2 people) cant really grumble too much.

Enjoyed it again, friendly and quirky

Second time we've played here as a society and it is one of the friendliest courses in the area. Always enthusiastic and helpful people on site to start your day off nicely. Course was exactly the same with the same issues around playing some holes twice but it didn't really impact too much. The free drop GUR around makes some holes too easy and the greens were a bit uneven in places. Overall another enjoyable experience and we will return I am sure !

Nice course, could be better

We had been recommended to this course and as we were mid COVID rules, we thought we would try it. The staff there were so helpful and really welcoming. The course itself was really nice, but there is a large amount of GUR close to the fairways which is a free drop and makes it too easy on some holes as you can smash the ball anywhere and its a free drop. Some holes you play twice which resulted in some near misses as the different tee positions for the same hole arent necessarily looking at each other (if you are new the course). Having said that, some lovely holes and on a blazing hot day it suited our needs. Although I enjoyed it, I probably won't play it again.

Hidden gem

This is the 2nd time I've played drax and wow it was in fabulous condition today with the greens being receptive and rolling true ,its not the longest course so game management is needed if you want a low score but it was a joy to play.

Tough track

I'm a member here. It's a very tight tough course. A real test for players of all abilities. A lot of work going on at the moment to improve further an already good course. Even course knowledge can't help you some days. Still needs a few more trees out but I'm told that's happening soon. If you're thinking of trying it for the first time I recommend going with a member who can give you tips on where to aim

A course that is a test of golf for low handicappers, but perfectly playable for all abilities. The holes are all different with dykes, ponds and bunkers to keep you on your toes! The greens are excellent and the course is very well kept. New signage around the course has helped with navigation. Don't forget the attached social club has excellent food and drink available all day. I will definitely visit again!

Really interesting and tricky course... I thought it was going to be a like a 9-hole pitch and putt...but boy was I wrong! This is a very tight and well kept course...and is actually now a 12 hole course..with different tees on some holes to create 18 holes... I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the greens as well..some of the best I've played on in Yorkshire..but it was summer so I guess they were at the best then. Overall a surprisingly good and difficult course...especially for the price.

Great course with huge potential to develop. This is a course that suits good golfers with tight lies, large, firm and true greens that are the best I have played on this year!

Use your head around the course and anywhere near par is a good score.

a short course to be sure but a really interesting one, accuracy is the key here and a small fade/draw can sometimes be of benefit on a few of the longer holes.the layout is cleverly designed playing some of the holes twice from different tees,a really enjoyable round and the greens were superb very quick and held the line niceley
