What The Club Says
Opened in 1926, this undulating woodland course can punish the wayward shot. This course can either leave you happy and contented or frustrated to the point of storing your clubs. Finding the fairway is an absolute must as there are many meandering streams around the course. The 1st is one of the holes that requires great care. On an elevated tee the brave can attempt to clear the stream with a wood leaving a small chip onto the green. For most you have to judge the wind and slope before you swing anything from a 5 to a 9 iron. The 12th hole rewards the bold with a good birdie or eagle opportunity - but beware - a stray drive out of bounds and you'll be lucky to avoid dropping a shot.

Much improved
Course has improved due to efforts of new green keeper and of the golf shop staff Steve and Matt. Hopefully they will get this course back to somewhere near its former condition of years gone by, when it was the best municipal course in the area. Keep up the good work and me and my pals will be more than happy to keep playing this course.Reviewer Rating

Green Shoots of Improvement
After several years of really poor maintenance, the course is in need of some TLC. I heard from a friend that a new groundsman had started, so I went to play 9 holes this afternoon. The framework of this charming course is still intact, but there is so much work still to be done. Nevertheless, here are the positives - the welcome from the pro shop is as friendly as ever - there is some sand in the bunkers now, and the motorbike tyre tracks on the green that were there last time I played were nowhere to be seen.I hope the improvement in the state of the course can continue - there is still so much to be done - I wish it well for the future.

Great course but not anymore
Course has been neglected since ‘My Time’ took over its management. Used to play regularly, great course when it was properly maintained, however has been in a terrible condition the last 5 years. Would be great to hear feedback from My Time as to any whether they intend to make major improvements moving forwards, or is the plan to continue to neglect the course, if so why ?Reviewer Rating

Shambles
This used to be a lovely little municipal course. I've played it for over 30 years. Played today. Easily the worse conditions I've played on a golf course. 'Fairways' are diabolical. More rough than a wetherspoons on a Saturday night. You are lucky to find your ball after driving it dead centre. The 'greens' are more like a bad fairway at a decent course, although to be fair the fairways at a decent course probably run truer. An absolute disgrace what My time have done to this once nice course.
I won't be back.

Awful
Played on Saturday. Lost a couple of balls on the 1st 2 holes. The balls went down the middle of the fairway but could not find them, the grass is too long! Found 5 balls on the fairways in the 1st nine holes then walked off in disgust. Does the groundsman know what a mower is!Reviewer Rating

Unplayable Greens
Was advised by email that a lot of investment had been made so decided to give it a go - use to play here regularly and like the course. Not sure where the money was spent but the greens were atrocious, pretty much unplayable. Large cracks, mostly bare, previous holes not filled correctly, and current holes cut badly with gaps and divots around them.
No way can this be classed as acceptable and no mention from the shop on arrival - won’t be back anytime soon.

Much Improved
The course has much improved now most of the rough has been cut back. The greens are being treated so don't expect immaculate greens for at least a month or so.Reviewer Rating

Great Improvement
After the terrible state of the golf course both in 2023 and 24 after many years we stopped our membership and joined another club. We played it 18th March to have a look (11 holes) and it is 300% plus better and it is only mid March! Enormous improvements have been made already and it can only get better with the spring dryer weather. The rough has been cut down where you can actually find your ball. The fairways are a lot shorter (last year you would lose your ball on the fairway) and the ball actually had some run on it. There is fresh sand in the bunkers and although the greens do require some treatment they are a lot shorter and faster. The people involved has made a great effort to get the course back to where it should be and they need praising. Yes more can be done but as we love this course we are going to rejoin our membership for the new season.
