What the club says: Opened in 1926, this undulating woodland course can punish the wayward shot. This course can either leave you happy and contented or frustrated to the point of storing your clubs. Finding the fairway is an absolute must as there are many meandering streams around the course. The 1st is one of the holes that requires great care. On an elevated tee the brave can attempt to clear the stream with a wood leaving a small chip onto the green. For most you have to judge the wind and slope before you swing anything from a 5 to a 9 iron. The 12th hole rewards the bold with a good birdie or eagle opportunity - but beware - a stray drive out of bounds and you'll be lucky to avoid dropping a shot.

Been playing here since 1973. Was great then. With all the changes has gone down ever since. Apparently in the 60s three holes were over a road. Anyone know where they managed to put in 3 new holes ?

Cocks moors woods

Returned to play a game of golf today 8th July after weeks of neglect of the course in the past I actually enjoyed today's game. The course has now finally been sorted out. The fairways are short as well as the rough so you don't lose any balls on the fairway anymore. I will definitely return to play again in the near future.

A good test of golf at a good price. Fairways cut and continuing works creating better conditions. Greens need tlc but improvements are being made. Pro shop staff very helpful. Will return.

A good challenging course which, sadly, is now in poor condition. The greens are good but the fairways badly need cutting and if your ball rolls 6" off the fairway, don't bother looking for it as the grass is so long.

Don’t bother, go to the range instead

Course conditions are always poor, or rather, they have been everytime I’ve ever played there.
Last time being yesterday where the fairway was indistinguishable from the rough - I lost a ball on the fairway!!
Greens are like a weeks worth of stubble, play every putt as a straight putt.
It’s almost like a park that the park ranger has a passing interest in golf, as opposed to an actual golf course.
But I guess that’s why they charge £14/15 because anything more than that would be armed robbery.

Played 15May 2023 course in appalling condition. Greens OK, Fairways and Tees looked like they hadn’t been cut in weeks. The fact that I lost a ball in the fairway says it all. First cut of rough was six inches deep, rough looked like a jungle. I played the first nine in 41 so didn’t play badly but still lost 4 balls. Course badly neglected, how they can charge what they do for this mess is beyond me.

Terrible! Apart from the greens, the course looked like it hadn't been maintained for months! Tees, Fairways, Bunkers and Rough were nearly unplayable! Being able to lose a ball on the Fairway says all you need to know! Weeds everywhere and the odd topless random guy, hitting balls towards you and actually asking you if you were playing the right ball topped it off.
Others on the course also complaining about the same issues

Dry fairways...

Good evening to play. Fairways are in good condition. Grass on some greens is a bit long. Got extra length on drives because of the dry fairways.

Great course in the heart of Birmingham

CMW is a really interesting mature course and has been improved greatly over the last couple of years. The front 9 is marginally harder than the back but there is good variety throughout. Matt and Steve are friendly, helpful and always ready to engage, it is a pleasure to interact with them. A couple of minor gripes, the bunkers are poor and need some work and MyTime should really invest in some better fences to keep the idiots who 'play for free' off the course. Overall, CMW is an excellent course to play

Almost a really good course.

Played in Sept 2021 and really enjoyed it apart from the bunkers. They are in a shocking state with weeds, grass and flowers growing in them. The fairways and greens were in excellent condition and some holes are a challenge, but the course is let down horribly by the bunkers. It staggers us that green keepers are happy to see them in the state they are in.

Municipal Course. Potential Though

Played this course today. It is an 18 hole municipal. To be fair it is a good course. Some dangerous holes if you dont hit them straight off the tee. Really enjoyed it but what lets it down badly are the greens, Some are quite horrendous and others are lovely. Really strange the difference from one hole to the other with the greens. pro shop stacked really well and they have some great stuff both brand new and used. Recommend it though as if the greens were better then this would be a lovely municipal.
