What the club says: Opened in 1926, this undulating woodland course can punish the wayward shot. This course can either leave you happy and contented or frustrated to the point of storing your clubs. Finding the fairway is an absolute must as there are many meandering streams around the course. The 1st is one of the holes that requires great care. On an elevated tee the brave can attempt to clear the stream with a wood leaving a small chip onto the green. For most you have to judge the wind and slope before you swing anything from a 5 to a 9 iron. The 12th hole rewards the bold with a good birdie or eagle opportunity - but beware - a stray drive out of bounds and you'll be lucky to avoid dropping a shot.

Much Improved
The course has much improved now most of the rough has been cut back. The greens are being treated so don't expect immaculate greens for at least a month or so.Reviewer Rating

Great Improvement
After the terrible state of the golf course both in 2023 and 24 after many years we stopped our membership and joined another club. We played it 18th March to have a look (11 holes) and it is 300% plus better and it is only mid March! Enormous improvements have been made already and it can only get better with the spring dryer weather. The rough has been cut down where you can actually find your ball. The fairways are a lot shorter (last year you would lose your ball on the fairway) and the ball actually had some run on it. There is fresh sand in the bunkers and although the greens do require some treatment they are a lot shorter and faster. The people involved has made a great effort to get the course back to where it should be and they need praising. Yes more can be done but as we love this course we are going to rejoin our membership for the new season.

Rugged course, challenging and cheap
Like to play this one occasionally because it's cheap and challenging. Not always in the best of condition, very rugged but no complaints. Some of the greens were in good condition but unfortunately some have been vandalised. Not the golf course management fault of course, so please support CocksMoor Woods.Reviewer Rating

Terrible course
Absolutly shocking course, not maintained at all, fairways are like 1st cut of rough, rough has bot veen cut at all its up to your shins so if you have missed the so called fairway its a lost ball, grass on greens are way to long so putts have to be whacked, grass is way to long on tees, and bunkers might aswell be concrete as bot maintained at all there either rock hard or there is grass and moss growing in alot of them, And they have the verve to charge £25 for a round, you can get cheaper at a well kept private courseReviewer Rating

Forest Golf
Green keepers should be fired. It’s not a golf course but a forest with a golf course on it. Cut the grass back.Reviewer Rating

Used to be a great course
Not maintained how it used to be. It might due to the heavy rain we had through the winter but if the condition stays like that I won't be playing there again anytime soon...!!!Reviewer Rating

Returned to play a game of golf today 8th July after weeks of neglect of the course in the past I actually enjoyed today's game. The course has now finally been sorted out. The fairways are short as well as the rough so you don't lose any balls on the fairway anymore. I will definitely return to play again in the near future.Reviewer Rating

Don’t bother, go to the range instead
Course conditions are always poor, or rather, they have been everytime I’ve ever played there.Last time being yesterday where the fairway was indistinguishable from the rough - I lost a ball on the fairway!!
Greens are like a weeks worth of stubble, play every putt as a straight putt.
It’s almost like a park that the park ranger has a passing interest in golf, as opposed to an actual golf course.
But I guess that’s why they charge £14/15 because anything more than that would be armed robbery.
