What The Club Says

Bantry Bay Golf Club's 18 Hole Championship Course, open all year, towers above the head of Bantry Bay, in the Far West of County Cork. Fourteen holes immediately overlook the shore where the warm Gulf Stream first touch land on this side of the Atlantic, Fuchsias abound, and there are splendid panoramic views across the sea and islands to the Beara Mountains, Sheep's Head and the Mizen Peninsula.

Course architects Eddie Hackett and Christy O'Connor Jnr., of Ryder Cup fame, in keeping with USGA standards, have adapted some 170 acres of picturesquely undulating scenery - even the six lakes and other hazards would charm a landscape artist.

Bantry Park Golf Course

My brother, his daughter and I played here in early October. It's a fine course with beautiful views of Bantry Bay and the mountains of the Beara Peninsula. Originally a 9-hole course (my brother and I were there on the day it opened in 1975), it was extended to 18 holes during the 1990s. The "new" 9 are more challenging, with lots of up-and-down and big, sloping greens. The greens themselves are excellent. You will need to have your A-Game to score well here. I didn't!

A really friendly club. We played in June after a prolonged spell of bad weather but the course was in good condition. After the first holes 2-4 are a bit dull although the views are great but from hole 5 onwards the holes are interesting.
