What the club says: Many view Southport as English golf's 'royal family'. One course you shouldn't miss on your travels is Alt, routinely trumpeted as one of the unsung heroes of this part of England. Brilliant, exciting and fit enough for any level of player, you'll struggle to find a course that's an enjoyable as this one with having to delve deep into your pocket.

In its hayday spoken about by Peter Aliss as being a challenging course. Now a mature municipal course with a golf club linked to it. Previously run by Trafford Council. Course since handed over to private company to look after and has improved greatly year on year. A forgiving course for beginners as does not require long drives to reach fairways but to play well requires accuracy and good positional play. A windy day certainly makes the course tricky.

Excellent well maintained course for the beginner and the low handicapper alike.
No two holes are the same and the brook that runs throughout the course always asks questions.
The par 5 9th & 12th can make or break your round as can the par 4 16th where the 2nd shot gives you the option of laying up or trying to clear the tall trees and water hazzard.

A perfect starter course, and great value for money. The opening nine are very boring, however don`t be put off by this. There are a large number of dog walkers and postmen that use the public footpaths across the course, but they do not interfere with your game. The greens are excellent compared to some other more expensive courses. The dress code seems very relaxed which is perfect for novices. In all a great course, that is well maintained and very good value for money let down slightly by the poor shop and change facilities.
