Why You Must Stay at Palmares Beach House Hotel

By: Kieran Clark | Wed 05 Jul 2023

Situated away from the heart of Vilamoura, the Western Algarve is comparatively untouched by travelling golfers, but there is no doubt that Palmares is among the highlights in this beautiful part of the world.

Described as a “warmer” Scotland by its respected creator Robert Trent Jones Jr, who was enlisted to re-design this thrilling layout, the Palmares Golf Course consists of three separate nine-hole loops, known as Alvor, Lagos and Praia, each of which have their own unique qualities to offer and are set in a stunning location close to the historic town of Lagos.

Golfshake Editor Andy Waple grasped at the chance to play here in 2022, recording his thoughts in this review, where he described the venue as being "without doubt one of the best golf locations in Europe."

But if you wish to experience this destination for yourself, then you need to find the right place to stay, and it doesn't come much better than what's offered by the Palmares Beach House Hotel

Palmares Beach House Hotel

Palmares Hotel

Offering a relaxed, ocean-flavoured atmosphere, the Palmares Beach House Hotel is an adult-only, art deco venue that is spread across two floors and consists of 18 rooms and two suites, all of which benefit from magnificent panoramic views and come decorated in soft ocean tones that provide an artistic vibe bursting with natural light.

Following a day spent on the stunning golf course that runs alongside the Bay of Lagos, this hotel is a hub of tranquility, where you can enjoy a cocktail (or two) on the terrace at the poolside lounge bar, while an appetising mix of Portuguese and international dishes can be sampled from the site's fabulous restaurant.

The hotel boasts an outdoor pool where you can unwind, but a great appeal to Palmares are the beaches themselves. You are just a short walk from Meia Praia in Lagos, a long beach stretching all the way from the Ria de Alvor estuary to the historic city of Lagos. You can take a shuttle bus that offers transport to this majestic paradise, with the Algarve's golden beaches - Falesia, Rocha and Montegordo - all within driving distance too.

Should you be feeling a touch more adventurous, then hiking is an option in the nearby mountain areas of Monchique and Caldeirao, which presents you with an opportunity to savour the most expansive of vistas across the area. Surfing and water sports are something else that you can partake in at Palmares - but we know that you're most intrigued by the golf itself!

When he visited, Golfshake's Andy Waple reflected: "The three loops have very distinctive features and as a result Palmares offers a great golfing experience. No matter which two of the three are selected, players are rewarded with equally impressive conditioning throughout, at least in my experience, from playing there a number of times over the years."

You can see Andy's thoughts in detail in the feature article: Palmares Ocean Living and Golf Review.

What You Need to Know
