China Fleet Country Club Resort Review

By: Matt Holbrook | Fri 17 Sep 2021

Review by Golfshake Ambassador Matt Holbrook

Set in 180 acres of rolling countryside, 15 minutes from the centre of Plymouth, the Tamar-Tavy Estuary provides a fitting backdrop for China Fleet Country Club and alongside the stunning golf course, China Fleet boasts an array of activities on-site to ensure that all parties and guests are catered for, whether it’s the relaxation of the Spa or the cut and thrust of tennis or squash. This multisport and relaxation venue is a must visit spot for those venturing down to the South West of England.

Accommodation

The 41 spacious apartments on-site are all on a self-catering basis - although in room dining is available. From the Rosewood Suite, which is designed for couples that want to be locked away from the world and enjoy each other’s company, to the Acorn and Acer Cottages which might be ideal for those groups on golf breaks or indeed hen parties and can sleep up to six people.

All the accommodation at China Fleet has a friendly layout with open plan kitchen/dining/living areas and all come equipped with Wi-Fi, Iron, TV, Hairdryer, Toiletries and both towels for the Spa and swimming and bathroom use. The kitchen has all equipment needed if you did decide you wanted to cook meals for yourself.

Food

China Fleet

If the idea of self-catering isn’t for you then fear not as there are other options available.

If you wanted something quick to go then head for The Cabin Café & Bar. Options will range from sandwiches, salads, paninis, etc, alongside a host of Cornish Tea & Coffee, soft drinks and beers with inside and outside seating available, the small play area is also ideal if you wanted to let the younger members of your party run wild for a bit.

The Lounge Bar is mostly used by golfers staying and features a relaxed vibe with pool table and sports on the TV. With some lovely views looking out onto the golf course, the Lounge Bar shares the menu with the Brasserie and also has local ales and a full range of hot drinks.

The Brasserie itself is the main eating area, still with a relaxed atmosphere and the menu offers an array of dishes made with a selection of local ingredients. There is a children’s menu available and the small indoor soft play will keep the kids entertained before your meal.

Afternoon tea and Sunday Carvery are also very popular with members and guests alike.

Spa

The Spa facilities available are second to none. On top of the swimming pool and other leisure facilities you will find the Laconicum (similar to a Roman Sauna), Finnish Sauna, Foot Spas, Tepidarium Loungers, Salt Steam Room, Aroma Steam Room, Spa Pool, Experience Showers and The Ice Chute. You wouldn’t be going far wrong if you wanted to lock yourself away in here all day during your stay for the ultimate detox and relaxation.

If the Aqua Spa isn’t enough for you and a little more pampering is required, then be sure to check out the Barn Spa which specialises in Relaxation, Beauty & Wellbeing Treatments. Spa Days and Breaks.

To top it all off, if you are staying at China Fleet for a special occasion then there is also The Palm Club Hair Studio where the team of creative individuals will be able to work their magic.

Sports

China Fleet

Whilst the golf may take centre stage - with the 18-hole course, Toptracer range and Adventure Golf (more on that in a while) there is a whole host of other sporting activates on offer down at China Fleet.

If you prefer racquets over clubs then why not take advantage of the two squash courts, two tennis courts, two badminton courts as well as table tennis, short tennis and racquet ball all available. If short mat bowls is more your scene then that is also available.

The fully equipped gym includes free weights, CV equipment, functional training as well as personal training and sports therapy. The team will be on hand to either show you around or host a number of classes that are available throughout your stay.

Children

There is also an adequate selection of activities on offer for the smaller members of your group. Catering for kids can sometimes be quite difficult but along with the swimming, the outdoor play and indoor soft play, there are 18 action packed holes of adventure golf, and the Woodland Fairy Trail is a must - making your way along the route solving the clues and puzzles in the activity book as you go.

Other

China Fleet has all angles covered, some other mentions would go to the conferences and wedding packages available, team building, corporate golf days. Whatever your need, I’m fairly sure China Fleet would have it covered and more.

It’s a great place to stay and play - regardless of what it is you're playing or doing to relax and unwind. The staff are friendly and helpful and everything is clean and tidy as you would expect.
