Abacus Sportswear Launches 1950s Inspired Spring/Summer 2014 Collection

Abacus Sportswear, the Swedish golf clothing brand, has announced the launch of its Spring/Summer 2014 (SS14) collection, which combines authentic Swedish design with bright colours and bold patterns, for a 1950’s inspired range with a modern edge.

Black and White form the foundations of the collection, with aptly named colours – Lipstick, Emerald, Blue Iris and Lemonade – injecting summer-time hues throughout the range. Polka dots and bold stripes punctuate the cheerful ensemble.

Chris Mattsson, Abacus Sportswear’s head designer, said: “The design concepts for SS14 are simple and minimalistic, intended to work ‘as one’.

“The line has been developed to combine a mix of solids and graphic motifs with contrasting textures to form styles that are clean, functional and edgy – representative of our Swedish heritage.

“The happy colours and playful patterns reflect our belief in the importance of having fun on the golf course and enjoying the game.”

She added: “At Abacus, we always put the needs of the golfer first when we design our products and ranges. We believe that if golfers look and feel their best, they are likely to play their best too.”

The men’s Trenton Trousers are a new addition to the collection with mechanical stretch properties, which mimic the stretchiness of Spandex or Lycra but without the inclusion of such fibres within the garment. The trousers are highly breathable and include a grip lining on the waistband, which helps prevent tucked in polos from riding up during a golf swing.

The ladies Mauna Skort created from stretch, wicking and breathable fabrics, is promising to be a very successful product for the SS14 season, building on the popularity of the signature Cleek Skort with its anti-crease, Drycool® fabric that ensures moisture is removed from the body to the surface of the fabric where it can evaporate quickly.

The collection also sees the return of performance-led and highly technical fabrics, including the Cocona®, Bamboo Charcoal and CoolMax® yarns, which provide effective evaporative cooling, odour
absorption and UV protection.

As always, rainwear and windwear remain key aspects of the new SS14 range, combining simplicity, design and functionality, which encapsulates the unique abacus® brand ethos.
