Shotmiser G700 Golf GPS Review

By: Darren Ramowski | Fri 18 Nov 2011

Shotmiser G700 Golf GPSThe Shotmiser G700 was recently voted the best value GPS by Todays Golfer magazine and we recently got the chance to test out and review this sub £250 GPS device.

The first thing that strikes you about this GPS device is the screen size which is specified at measuring 3.5 inches, corner to corner, and measures over 2 inches across compared to other devices which are well under this at around 1.5 inches.

If you were merely using for yardage readings then the extra size wouldn't really matter but utilising the Shotmiser G700s point to point touch technology it makes use even easier.  The touch screen allows you to simply select any point on the hole map and get accurate yardages to your current point quickly and easily making this one of the stand out features.

The screen is full colour and the manufactureres are confident that the super bright LCD screen will function in any weather or lighting conditions and during our tests we didn't have any problems in bright sun or diminishing light quality.

Hole and course maps are generated by a mixture of walking the course using survey grade equipment and high resolution flown imagery, providing a true feel for the course as well as accurate distance information to any critical hazards, layups and green targets.  This is another nice feature which can help when playing a new course and being able to visualise before you play and whilst you are playing.

Like most GPS devices the Shotmiser G700 requires you to link up to your PC to download the courses you require, all without any subscription fee.

The G700 also allows you to record your on course score and stats including Penalties and Putts and will also automatically record your FIR, GIR and Sand shots assuming you have full shot tracking turned on.  This looks a great feature but we didn't quite have the time to fully test outside the core GPS and distance measuring functionality.

To summerise, the Shotmiser G700 is a feature packed multi functioning device, with an excellent responsive large clear touch screen display and at great value, standing up well against the other more well known brands.
