Garmin has unveiled its new flagship Approach S72 golf smartwatch, introducing biometric data, on-wrist swing metrics, green-reading technology and a host of new features for golfers.
Garmin has expanded its range of golf wearables with the launch of the new Approach S72, a premium golf smartwatch that introduces biometric data, on-wrist swing metrics and enhanced green-reading features alongside Garmin's established on-course technology.
Available in 43mm and 47mm sizes, the Approach S72 features a bright AMOLED display together with a lightweight titanium bezel, sapphire lens and new ComfortFit fabric band.
Among the most notable additions is the ability for golfers to access biometric information during and after their rounds. This includes real-time heart-rate data, allowing players to review how their heart rate changed before and after shots and identify potential trends across a completed round.
Garmin has also introduced on-wrist swing metrics to the Approach S72. Golfers can access data including hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation, providing additional information for those looking to understand changes in their swing.
Green reading has also been added to the watch. Golfers with an active Garmin Golf Membership can use green contour data to see the direction of break and average slope percentage, helping them identify potential aim points when putting.

New Golf Features on the Garmin Approach S72
Golf biometric data: Following a completed round, golfers can review trends to see how changes in heart rate may have related to their scoring.1
Swing metrics: The watch provides a range of on-wrist swing measurements, including hand speed, backswing length and wrist rotation.
Green reading: Using green contour data, the green-reading feature provides additional information to help golfers determine their intended putting line.2
Driving range activity: Golfers can track swing metrics and tendencies during practice sessions, while driving range activities can also be logged within the Garmin Connect app and contribute towards fitness goals.
Putting analytics: Following a round, golfers can access information through the Garmin Golf app covering areas including speed bias, direction bias and make rate.2
Aerial imagery: Real imagery of the hole can be viewed on the watch to provide additional course information when considering lay-up positions, potential misses and other strategic decisions.2
Designed for Golf and Everyday Wear
Away from its new golf functionality, Garmin has also updated the design and general smartwatch capabilities of the Approach S72.
The watch features a lightweight titanium bezel, sapphire lens and ComfortFit fabric strap, with Garmin aiming to make the device suitable for wearing both during a round and throughout the day.
For the first time on a Garmin golf smartwatch, the Approach S72 includes a speaker and microphone. When paired with a compatible smartphone, this allows users to make and receive calls from the watch, while voice commands can also be used for basic tasks.
A built-in flashlight provides variable intensities of white light alongside a red-light setting.
Battery life on the larger model is rated at up to 20 hours when playing golf and up to 16 days in smartwatch mode with GPS turned off.
Health and Fitness Features
As well as its golf-specific technology, the Approach S72 includes Garmin's wider range of health and fitness features.
These include wrist-based heart-rate monitoring, stress tracking, Body Battery energy monitoring and advanced sleep monitoring.1 A selection of preloaded activity profiles is also included for golfers who want to incorporate strength, mobility and other forms of exercise into their training.

The Garmin Approach S72 is available now, with suggested retail prices starting from £699.99 in the UK and €799.99 in Ireland.
