For golfers who regularly fly with their clubs, a travel cover earns its keep long before it reaches the baggage hold. Protection is essential, but so is being able to get everything from the car park to check-in without feeling as though your arms are being pulled from their sockets.
New for 2026, the ClubGlider 3 is the latest version of US golf luggage specialist Sun Mountain’s popular travel case. Its standout feature is the retractable leg system, which supports the weight of the loaded bag and makes light work of moving it through an airport.

Testing Sun Mountain's ClubGlider 3
I regularly travel by air with my clubs, so a good-quality travel case is a must. There are worthy alternatives available, but Sun Mountain’s patented glide system is a considerable attraction.
At its heart is a retractable kickstand that folds into the base of the bag when not in use. Release it from its housing and the additional wheels support the load, leaving you to steer rather than carry its weight.
Releasing the stand proved a little fiddly at first, but I soon got the hang of it. Once it was deployed, I could manoeuvre the loaded bag with my little finger. That was a huge benefit when making my way from the car park to the terminal and on to check-in with other luggage in tow.
Having dragged travel bags around airports in the past, I found the difference immediately apparent. The frame and generously sized wheels also felt sturdy and well made.
Protection is the other priority. Some soft-sided travel covers offer limited reassurance around the vulnerable clubheads, but the ClubGlider 3’s moulded protective section and padding give it a more substantial feel in this area.
Despite its apparent bulk and the additional wheel assembly, weight was not an issue on my first trip. Packed with a full set of clubs, six balls, a pair of shoes and my toiletry bag, it weighed 16.5kg at check-in, comfortably within the 20kg allowance for that flight.
The internal pockets were useful for stashing shoes, and there was plenty of room for extras such as waterproofs. The AirTag pocket is a thoughtful addition for anyone who likes to track their luggage, although inserting the device was slightly fiddly.
The integrated TSA-compatible lock is another useful feature, particularly for travel to or through the United States. It allows security staff with the appropriate equipment to open the lock for inspection.
The zips felt suitably heavy-duty. Once they were fully closed and the external straps tightened, the whole package felt secure, with the clubs snugly protected inside.

Verdict
The ClubGlider 3 is among the best golf travel covers I have used. Its strongest selling point is the ease with which it moves a full set of clubs through an airport, backed by reassuring protection and thoughtful storage.
At around £360, it is a considered purchase. For golfers who travel regularly with their clubs, however, the relief it brings to the journey makes a persuasive case for spending the extra.
