Allow me to set the scene for a second…
It’s Monday morning, I’ve just woken up from a weird broken sleep that included me taking in the England football match at 2am and I’m about to head to breakfast at one of my new favourite golf resorts/venues.
Experiencing The Magnificent Trump Doonbeg

I haven’t visited Ireland much for golf, in fact, only once back in 2016 when I played at The K Club and Portmarnock Links. So, when I got offered the chance to go on a press trip to Trump Ireland - Doonbeg, naturally I jumped at that chance.
As is usual when I’ve played somewhere nice, I don’t and won’t go into too much detail on this weekly column as there will be a written feature to come - but I’ve been blown away by this place and now have a serious contender in my top five favourite courses. You’ll note I like to call mine favourites and not the 'best' and it then can’t be challenged very easily. Smart.
The golf, the venue, the service, facilities, accommodation - even the food, which is rare for me, have all been incredible - so much so I’m not playing until 10am this morning but thinking of heading up around 8am (25 minutes from now and counting) to make use of the facilities and probably spend some of my winnings from the PGA Tour event last night in the plush pro shop.
Betting Rewards on PGA Tour
On that note, it was another successful week for the bank of Holbrook, but I can't take all the credit, I do have to call out industry colleague Baz Plummer from Golf Monthly who hosts a weekly podcast around golf betting and also a column once a week. I followed him again last week and backed Chris Gotterup and Ben Kohles who finished 1st and T3rd respectively. Although had Kohles won and Gotterup finished in the top 10, it would have been worth a LOT more. But a win is a win - and remember, gamble responsibly please kids.
Busy Schedule of Golf Continues
At the moment, it feels like the days and weeks are all blurring into one. Especially being away this week Sunday-Tuesday then again next week Tuesday-Thursday. With other golf blended in around too, there is a lot going on.
I had a good game at Woodbridge last week a couple of days after my lesson. After getting the ball hanging off my neck back out during practice the swing felt good and played ok, but it was in prep really for this Saturday's Eastern Counties Cup. Woodbridge is another cracking Suffolk heathland course where I will be playing the 36-hole black tee medal open comp this coming weekend!
This YouTuber Can Play Golf
One other thing I wanted to call out this week which I found highly impressive - YouTuber Brad Dalke, now formally of Good Good Golf - made his debut on the DP World Tour in Germany and not only did he make the cut, he was way inside the top 10 after the first two rounds. Just like one of my tee shots, he did fade away over the weekend but - without fact checking purely because I don’t have the time - I think he still managed a top 30 finish, which is incredible and kudos to him for flying the YouTube flag.
So that’s it for this week, I really need to go and get some breakfast, get my drone up and bash some balls, but for those that don’t, make sure you follow me on Instagram (MattHolbrook86) and check out some of the photos from Trump Doonbeg.
Have a good week!
