Trophies stolen from historic golf club during clubhouse burglary
Numerous golf courses across the UK have been routinely targeted by vandals in recent years, which has even led to some clubs taking expensive measures to combat recurring attacks, typically from users of e-bikes and other vehicles.
However, the revered Coxmoor Golf Club, one of the most celebrated venues in the Midlands, has this week become the victim of criminal actions of another kind as its clubhouse suffered a break-in, resulting in the theft of numerous trophies and valuable pieces of silverware.
Kerrie Clarke, Club Secretary, broke the news on Facebook: "It is with great sadness that I write this post. The clubhouse was broken into in the early hours of this morning, the trophy cabinet was raided and we have had most of our silverware stolen.
"There is a huge amount of history and many years of memories tied up in those trophies which adds to the anger and frustration we are feeling at the moment.
"Suffice to say, if anyone hears of or knows anything about this, please let the club or the police know."

Anyone with a knowledge of how golf clubs operate will be fully aware that unique trophies are an invaluable part of the heritage and tradition of the place, often being present for generations, and the loss of these cultural emblems is understandably heartbreaking to both members and staff.
Responding to questions raised on social media, it was revealed that with regards to alarms that "everything possible (was) in place and everything worked as it should have. As previously noted, the police and our private security were there in under 10 minutes."
This was a swift act of criminality that has been hugely damaging. Other clubs in the area have been notified and it's now in the hands of the proper authorities to hopefully discover who is responsible and to recover the stolen trophies.
Coxmoor itself was established way back in 1913 and offers a heathland course that ranks among the very best layouts in Nottinghamshire. It's unsurprisingly Highly Recommended on Golfshake and last year was featured among our most underrated courses to play.
After playing here in 2020, our reviewer said: "I really enjoyed my round at Coxmoor and can fully understand why its membership is full and there’s a waiting list to join, as well as why the Golfshake Community give it such stellar scores. As my playing partner and I sat on the balcony after the round watching groups tee off from the 10th, we both agreed it’s the type of course which would make a nomadic golfer seriously consider signing up."
It's saddening to see that a venue of such distinction has been targeted and damaged in this manner.
