Am I ever going to play golf this year?
Ok, so the headline is kind of ‘click baity’ but you’re here now, so you may as well hang around and have a read. But I did start last week's update/blog/diary (whatever you want to call this at this stage), with "things are looking up..." and they were. But then they weren’t.
Let’s get the negative out the way shall we? As of Monday 19th January, I STILL haven’t hit a golf ball on a golf course this year. My scheduled game, which was on for Friday last week, ended up getting canned as the weather, once again, put an end to those plans. Although to be fair, one of my courses was in fact open, but with a couple of holes closed and numerous temporary greens - and this isn’t the way I wanted to start my year off. And whilst both my courses have been open with a scattering of temps, this wasn’t ‘my weekend for golf’, so the wait goes on - but it’s a matter of time!
I had my fitting last week though, that was great. I'm going with the Cobra ADAPT X model, the new Cobra King Tech Mini driver and the 3DP Tour irons - I will probably go more into that as and when the new stuff arrives which might still be another few weeks.
At least this week there has been some golf to consume.
When Will Golf Courses Fully Open?

We have seen new equipment releases from Cobra, PING, TaylorMade and Callaway - most of which are available to view on our YouTube channel - in what was a busy week for golf media up and down the country. Having been privy to some press trips and what goes into recording and editing these videos, I give massive credit to all those guys that work in the industry delivering - in effect - free content to everyone. It might seem like a lavish lifestyle (and I’m sure 99.9% of those doing this wouldn’t swap it for the world) but the amount of travel, hitting balls, embargo dates to abide by, YouTube - long and short form - social media content, plane delays, missing bags, missed connections, the list really does go on. It’s not all glitz and glamour.
Live golf has also been back on the TV, and due to a nice relaxing Sunday, I watched pretty much most of the final round of the DP World Tour event in Dubai which went down to the wire.
I did have some fun at the driving range on Sunday evening - whilst I can take or leave the Toptracer ranges these days, mainly due to the increase in price of hitting balls (a topic I may revisit at some point), my six-year-old had a great time churning through 110 balls trying to hit any club 67 yards (parents of similar ages will fully understand this currently).
But finally, FINALLY, I can look forward to some golf this week. I have a game booked, the weather has been more favourable and the forecast looks good for the next couple of days and even though we are about, what feels like, three months into January, nothing is going to stop me from playing my first round of golf for 2026 this week. NOTHING.
