Must Watch Golf Events in August And September

The great thing about golf is that it’s played all over the world - meaning that, regardless of the time of year, there’s always a tournament taking place! Naturally, as a golf enthusiast, you might already have the PGA Tour mapped out. That said, if you’re less organised, we’re here to lend a hand.

As we head towards the end of the summer, here are the biggest tournaments you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for.

The TOUR Championship

Closing up August this year is the TOUR Championship, unfolding from 21st to 24th at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia. This is one of many big playoffs for the FedExCup, meaning that you’ll get to see some of the sport’s best over the long weekend.

Scottie Scheffler came out on top in the 2024 season here and is riding high as this year’s favourite. A good place to start looking at the rest of the field is a reliable sportsbook, but if you’re not sure which to pick, you can view more on the best betting apps on Oddschecker.

The Procore Championship

Napa, California (specifically, the North Course at the Silverado Resort) plays host to this year’s Procore, with Patton Kizzire having most recently beaten the pack during the 2024 season. He won with an impressive 20-under total, outpacing scores from all but Sahith Theegala here in the past decade.

Whether you’re tuning in or actually heading to CA yourself, make sure that you mark 11th to 14th September in your diary. This pre-Ryder Cup event doesn’t seem to be drawing many confident predictions at the time of writing. However, both Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele will reportedly be attending.

Therefore, it’s likely to be a packed leaderboard, with Theegala’s 2023 score of -21 up for beating. This is a bigger tournament than it seems - there are 500 FedExCup Fall points up for grabs, so anyone performing well here will be in a strong position on the Tour overall.

The Ryder Cup

Luke Donald Ryder Cup

This is the big one. It really has been two years already since Europe clinched their latest win! That said, the US are still firmly in the overall lead with 27 wins to Europe’s 15. Looking at the statistics, Europe have been pulling this back more and more in recent years - but it will be at least 24 years until they can break ahead!

This time around, the action will unfold between 23rd and 28th September, at the Bethpage Black Course in Farmingdale, New York. Captaining for Europe will be Luke Donald, who, of course, also led back in 2023 - there’s clearly a reason why he’s back in the top job!

Keegan Bradley, meanwhile, will lead the US team at the 45th Ryder Cup, marking 13 years since he first started taking part in the tournament, and 17 years since he turned pro.

That’s a trio of tournaments well worth waiting for as we tee off into September. And, naturally, if the British weather takes a turn for the worse by the time autumn gets here, it’s well worth considering a golf travel break (to the US or elsewhere).

Who do you think will come out on top in the tournaments discussed here? Will Luke Donald make us proud and score an away win for Europe at the 2025 Ryder Cup? We’ll know soon enough!
