Connor Syme joined Calum Hill and Ewen Ferguson to become the third Scottish winner on the DP World Tour in 2025 as he was crowned KLM Open champion in Amsterdam for his first title.

The Scot shot a final round of 70 for a four-round total of 273, 11 under par. He was four ahead on the the final tee but playing partner Joakim Lagergren, of Sweden, closed with an eagle to reduce the deficit to two and finish second on his own. Jayden Schaper, of South Africa, was third, seven behind Syme, with Scotland’s Ferguson and Richie Ramsay and England’s Jack Senior tied for fourth a further shot adrift.

The Kirkcaldy-born golfer took home the first prize of £345,000 and was warmly congratulated on the 18th green by Ferguson, who made a hole-in-one at the par-three seventh earlier in the day.

Some said: "I'm just so happy I managed to do it,. Everyone helped so much and I'm buzzing to do it with Ryan [McGuigan] on the bag as well, I'm overjoyed. It's so nice they {Ferguson and Ramsay] stuck around. I've been really pleased for them and I'm delighted to have won myself, amazing."

Syme's only previous win since turning professional in 2017 came in the 2019 Turkish Airlines Challenge on the Challenger Tour.

Who is Connor Syme?

Connor Syme

Syme was born in Kirkcaldy on July 11, 1995.

He won the 2016 Australian Amateur and was medalist at the 2016 Amateur Championship. He was top points scorer in Scotland's successful defence of the European Team Championship. He also represented Scotland at the Eisenhower Trophy where they led after day one. He helped retain the St Andrews Trophy representing Great Britain and Ireland men's team. He played in the 2017 Walker Cup and climbed to eighth in the amateur world rankings.

Syme was a member at Drumoig Golf Centre in Fife and is coached by his father, Stuart, who was also a member of the Scotland, Great Britain and Ireland teams.

He turned professional after playing in the 2017 Walker Cup. He made his pro debut at the Portugal Masters on the DP World Tour, finishing 12th after carding four successive under-par rounds. He had only three bogeys the entire week. He finished tied for 9th place in the 2017 DP World Tour qualifying school to gain a place on the tour for 2018.

In June 2018, Syme was second in the Shot Clock Masters. This was his only top-10 finish of the 2018 season and he lost his card for 2019.

He played on the 2019 Challenge Tour and in May he won the Turkish Airlines Challenge. In a playoff with Francesco Laporta he won with a birdie at the first extra hole. Coincidentally, Laporta finished joint seventh behind Syme at the KLM Open.

The Scot finished the season 14th in the Order of Merit to secure his return to the DP World Tour for 2020.

This was his 182nd start on the DP World Tour, and his first win. He has made 117 cuts, finishing second three times, third four times and 18 further top 10s. The victory takes him from 89th to 18th place in the Race to Dubai.
