10 Outsiders to Watch at The US Open 2024

By: | Mon 10 Jun 2024

Focus will understandably be on the favourites at this year's US Open - especially when it relates to Scottie Scheffler - but we only have to delve into the history books to see how often those considered to be outsiders have gotten their hands on America's national championship.

Golfshake's Derek Clements has identified several names who he could see having a great week at Pinehurst. What do you reckon? We have enclosed their odds from Betway too, showcasing just where they stand among the runners and riders in North Carolina.

Rikuya Hoshino (400/1)

Japanese golfer who is a prolific winner on his home circuit and made the breakthrough on the DP World Tour this year by winning the Qatar Masters.

Robert MacIntyre (66/1)

Was worried about keeping his card but laid all that to rest with his magnificent victory at the Canadian Open. The Scot just needs to keep believing in himself.

Tom McKibbin (200/1)

The 2023 European Open champion suffered in the aftermath of his maiden win but has shown consistently good form this year and could surprise a few people this week.

Ryan Fox (150/1)

There is never a dull moment when the New Zealander is in action. Hits the ball a mile but is struggling to come to terms with life on the PGA Tour. One good week will change that.

Austin Eckroat (150/1)

Was a wonderful amateur who took his time to adapt to the paid ranks but he has now won for the first time and could be won to watch this week.

Tom Hoge (150/1)

Another underrated American who knows how to win golf tournaments. He is a great ball striker and also possesses a wonderful short game.

Billy Horschel (150/1)

The American reached an all-time low at The Memorial in 2023. It is to his huge credit that he has managed to battle back. Incredibly popular.

Nicolai Hojgaard (125/1)

The Dane will win in America at some point, having already proven he knows how to do it in Europe. Has shown some decent form in 2024 but needs to remain patient.

Jake Knapp (250/1)

Another American who has won for the first time this year - and another who possesses a beautiful swing and who hits the ball into the middle of next week.

Christiaan Bezuidenhout (150/1)

The big South African has taken his time to settle into life on the PGA Tour but there are finally some signs that he feels at home - definitely has the game to win a major.
