Antoine Rozner Player Profile And What's In The Bag

By: | Mon 19 Dec 2022

KYLIAN MBAPPE and France may have lost the World Cup final but their countryman Antoine Rozner produced a superb display of front-running as he fired a 67 to win the Mauritius Open by five shots.

The Frenchman began the day with a two-shot lead and carded an eagle and three birdies on the front nine to stretch his lead to five at the turn.

He then safely navigated the next seven holes in breezy conditions before a bogey-birdie finish saw him end the tournament on 19 under par and banish the memory of a play-off defeat by Rasmus Højgaard in this event three years ago.

Rozner's commanding victory in the final event of the calendar year is his third win on the DP World Tour and first since the 2021 Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

Spaniard Alfredo Garcia-Heredia finished alone in second on 14 under after posting a flawless 67 on his 41st birthday.

France's Julien Brun was two shots further back in third after a par 72.

An emotional Rozner said: "Unbelievable. It's a tough game. We practice so hard all year long and a win is a win and I'm so glad I got this done.

"It's so hard to win so I'm just so happy. I didn't know anything about the scores, I didn't want to have a look. I knew I was in the lead.

"I knew if I kept playing like this there was going to be no issue at the end but it was so hard.

"I started hitting bad shots so I think with my caddie we did a really good job to stay focused and stay in the moment and not think about the scores and the other guys.

"We did an amazing job today.”

Player Profile

Rozner was born in Paris on February 12, 1993. He attended university in America from 2012 until 2016 and represented Europe in the Arnold Palmer Cup in 2016, winning all four of his matches.

He turned professional in 2016 and began his career on the Alps Tour before progressing to the Challenge Tour in 2018. He played 22 events on the Challenge Tour in 2018 and finished 45th on the order of merit and finally made it to the DP World Tour in 2020.

In December 2020 he won the Golf in Dubai Championship and followed that in March 2021 by winning the Qatar Masters, after which he rose to 63rd in the world rankings. His victory in Mauritius is his third.

His victory in Mauritius took him to fourth place in the DP World Tour rankings. He began the week in 185th place in the world rankings.

Rozner is a big hitter, averaging 321 yards from the tee, finding 55% of fairways and 77.78% of greens in regulation. He gets up and down from the sand just 25% of the time and averages 30 putts per round. His stroke average for the 20220-23 season is an impressive 68.83.
