The Best Budget Drivers of 2021

By: Golfshake Editor | Fri 21 May 2021

We have produced a list on the best drivers of the year, as well as including the most forgiving drivers of 2021. Naturally, as technology around club production improves, the price is hiked alongside it. With that in mind, we understand that the newest piece of kit is not always financially viable for everyone. Below, Golfshake Equipment Expert, Ryan Rastall has chosen three of the best budget drivers of this golf season to help you play more and play better.

Wilson D9

Wilson D9

The Wilson D9 is up to £200 cheaper than some of the entries on the premium list, but its features remain consistent. Hundreds of face geometries have been simulated to create a driver that could not only deliver higher ball speeds and subsequent distances – but one with incredible forgiveness, too. The huge sweet spot extends towards the toe and the heel to ensure that if you’re a little off, the D9 won’t be.

By dividing the face into a series of fractural zones, Wilson have managed to tune the driver for explosive distance whilst the Peak Kinetic Response Face optimises both ball speed and forgiveness. Although performance is the priority, a club needs to suit our eye at address and Wilson agree with this. The three-layer [K]Composite Crown has been crafted from Kevlar and carbon fiber to neutralise vibration for a smoother swing. Finally, this driver is incredibly lightweight – resulting in a lower centre of gravity and faster clubhead speeds for increased flight and distance.

Specs:

  • Loft – 9, 10.5, 13

What Golfshake Say:

“D9 comes in as a replacement for the D7 range and it has lots of great technology as well. It should help most levels of golfers get a bit more out of their performance."

RRP: £289

Orka Reflex

Orka Reflex

The Orka Reflex driver is a quality option for any golfer who is looking to upgrade their driver. Featuring the Reflex compression channel, ball speeds struck anywhere across the face are maximised for performance. Additionally, the sound and the feel is matched by the performance, with the club sitting nicely behind the ball.

The Reflex driver also has a single sole weight in the mid-position to offer a ball flight that is slightly lower than one that the GS5 PVD would produce. This has been achieved by moving the CG slightly further forward. If you’re looking for a budget driver that delivers in forgiveness, then look no further than the Orka Reflex.

Specs:

  • Loft – 9, 11, 13

What Golfshake Say:

“The fantastic low spin characteristics of this driver bee make it a must try for many golfers. The sleek black head frames the ball nicely but also feels amazing off the face. Orka also offer a wide range of aftermarket shafts with little or no upcharge."

RRP: £299

Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo

Cleveland Launcher

Cleveland state: “to go longer off the tee, you have to go faster,” and they’re not wrong. The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo focuses on speed. The Turbocharged Cup Face, which has been further enhanced with a new variable face, provides higher COR over a more expansive area which results in increased ball speeds and distances.

The redesigned HiBore Crown lowers the centre-of-gravity by 2.2mm, which enables a lower CG position. Moreover, the Ultralight Hosel redistributes the weight low and deep for a more profound launch without sacrificing forgiveness. Discretionary mass savings have been positioned for significant increase to MOI, which will also benefit with speed. All of these components work as a collective for faster drives and longer distances – are you ready to Step Up and Launch It?

Specs:

  • Loft – 9, 10.5, 10.5 DRAW, 12

What Golfshake Say:

“It is a driver that is aimed at varying levels of golfers. Lots of technology packed in there too, so it should be very forgiving but also give the user high launch and low spin."

RRP: £279

These are just three cheaper drivers that are available for purchase, but there are plenty more on the market. For more information on any of the products listed, please visit the manufacturer’s website or follow their social channels.
