ECCO S-LITE Review

REVIEW: ECCO S-LITE

By: | Fri 07 Jun 2019

Review by Golfshake's Kevin Paver

The golf season has finally arrived, and we are now all being treated to nice dry golf courses.

As well as lovely dry golf courses, we are also being treated to a plethora of spikeless golf shoes to choose from. Every year it seems, golf brands are delivering more and more summer shoes ensuring there is a product out there that works for you. And 2019 is no exception.

Enter the ECCO S-LITE

The S-LITE is new from the innovative Danish brand and is a unique hybrid model that provides a fresh approach to design, delivering comfort and quality engineering. We first saw these shoes at the PGA Show in Orlando and were immediately impressed with how lightweight they were. But that did pose the question, with a shoe as light as this, how would it perform over 18 holes?

LOOKS

Ok...first off, the S-LITE do NOT look like a golf shoe! Yes, they look great on the golf course, but you could easily carry these off heading down to your local for a Sunday roast!

As you’d expect, these shoes are made using ECCO’s own Yak leather, which is lined with a soft textile that provides a natural water repellent as well as making them breathable. They also feature a diamond-shaped embossing on the upper, which I really liked too. I tested the grey version, which I thought looked superb, but they do have a pretty varied colour range available.

FEEL

As I mentioned earlier, the S-LITE are super lightweight. I guess you’d expect that given its name! So light, you almost forget you have a pair of performance golf shoes on! But they deliver some superb comfort too.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the leather foot bed wouldn’t be comfortable. But it’s quite the opposite. Combine that with the heal.

Counter and the very clever PU wing that wraps around your foot and you have some serious comfort for that hot summer round.

PERFORMANCE

The base of the S-LITE that ECCO have designed is 66% thinner than any other T.PU outsole that they have ever made.

Yet, they have still managed to design a shoe that performs great on the course. They feature a hybrid outsole design that adds more than 100 traction studs and 800 traction angles. One thing is for sure, you WILL NOT struggle for grip with these on your feet!

They also feature ECCO’s FLUIDFORM Technology, which is clever stuff. I won’t go into the science as we’d be here a while, but it essentially means the sole gives you some pretty impressive cushioning and rebound, while still giving you plenty of flexibility.

SUMMARY

When I thought about how I would summarise these shoes, it was quite simple. The guys at ECCO have designed a fantastic summer golf shoe. As is common with ECCO, they are priced at the higher end of the market, which will naturally put some people off. But you are getting some seriously well-crafted shoes.

The S-LITE is perfect for those after work rounds, ideal for those hot summers days and brilliant for a golf trip somewhere super-hot. But what I love the most, is that they have delivered all this and not compromised on the performance.

If you’re looking for a summer golf shoe, the S-LITE has it all.

RATING 9/10
