What the club says: It may be the nation’s first golf course, but The National Azerbaijan Golf Club has been created to the most exacting standards and represents an ambitious foray into the sport for the emerging golfing nation.
Positioned within 75 hectares of idyllic Azerbaijani topography, the undulating fairways and deep bunkers are stand-out features and create a lasting impression on the eye. Imaginatively, and despite its championship credentials, landing zones, approaches and greens remain accessible, leading to a ‘look hard, play easy’ feel which maximises enjoyment amongst all pages.
In keeping with the native flora and fauna, the course is bordered by long grass and wild flowers, adding definition to its routing, while ancient apple trees have been retained in several areas.
Among the highlights of the routing are two lakes, separated by a creek which runs through the lowest point of the course, one of which provides a spectacular finish at the equally entertaining penultimate and final holes.

Newly opened in June 2014, has already been included on the European Challenge tour. Set in a Hotel resort in the foothills of the Caucus Mountains, it is a Hilly Parkland course with undulating fairways and greens with subtle borrows. Only course currently in Azerbaijan and I have played it every weekend since it opened. The Hospitality of the staff is excellent and the course is a great test of golf.
