What the club says: The Royal Golf Club’s two golf courses offer something for golfers of all abilities. The Montgomerie-designed Championship course will be a challenging option for even the most seasoned golfer but will also appeal to the less experienced as there are plenty of holes giving risk/reward opportunities for those daring enough to take them.

The Academy course provides a gentle introduction to the sport for beginners but, like the Championship course, offers more demanding options to the more experienced.

Superb but tough course

The Royal Golf Club in Bahrain is a real test of golf, as you would expect from a Monty design! The course was in superb condition and the hospitality was fantastic. As a single digit handicap player I still found this course very tough off the gold tees so I can imagine that higher handicaps players would really struggle here. The key around this track is to keep your ball in play as any loose shots will end up in the very unpredictable desert sand!

Last game before ramadhan

The first summer game. A bit cloudy and humid. The first 9 was kinda interesting with couple of pars but the index 1 hole green is really unforgiving. 3 putts to complete it. However 2nd 9 is awesome. Did not expect to play this well with only 2 bogeys. Miss my chance to get 79 on the last putt after the second shot with the new wood 3 ended up in the bunker.

Your stroke index for the men's course is wrong. RGC has changed 5 holes on the front 9 and 4 holes on the back 9.

I played Friday and Saturday, afternoon and morning, and if you can manage the heat it is a good test of your golf. It is a course that requires a golfer to think about how you will get to the green rather than just pulling your driver on every par 4 and 5. The greens had just been sanded so I can't make comment on their quality at this time. The fairways and tee boxes were in great condition but if you went through the light rough you were in hard pan or sand and recovery was not easy. Quite a bit of vegetation in the waste areas that did swallow a few balls from our group. Very good staff and a well maintained course with a very interesting layout.

very good course, very difficult, rough is hard sand and rock, although rakes are provided many users do not bother this makes bunker escapes almost impossible at times, staff very helpful
