What The Club Says
Should you be playing golf in the North East of England, a visit to Eaglescliffe is a must. Nestled beside the River Tees with the Cleveland Hills as a backdrop, the course has been described by Golf Monthly magazine as 'a hidden gem' of English golf.
Though picturesque, the course is demanding due to the nature of the rolling terrain and sloping greens and provides a challenge for both novice and experienced golfer alike.
Eaglescliffe & District Golf Club lies one mile to the north of the historic medieval riverside town of Yarm, and is situated on rolling terrain shelving down to the River Tees. A short drive from the towns of Stockton, Darlington, and Middlesbrough, the area is readily accessible by road, rail, and air.
Founded in 1914 as a 13-hole course on Yarm Back Lane, Eaglescliffe moved to its present position in 1928 with a long 18-hole, Par 77 course designed by the famous James Braid.

Going downhill!
Very poorly managed, getting a reputation for slow play and more and more members ignoring the dress code.Bunkers incredibly poor, with next to no sand. Some greens impossible to putt on due to the ridiculous slope and fast speed.
Often closed in the Winter, and they’re closing it for four days this summer for a county event! Very poor value.

The course was in very good condition and offers a physical and mental challenge. It's just as well that it only measures just under 6300 yards as you have to think very carefully about your drives, approach shots and putts whilst wending your way uphill and down dale above and alongside the River Tees.
For me and many others no doubt there aretwo signature holes. The par-5 14th has the river tight on the right whilst fairway bunkers gobble up anything other an accurate shots. The approach to the green is flat and can be difficult to judge for the third shot.
The par-3 17th is simply gorgeous. Not particularly long at around 160 yards. However from an elevated tee you have to carry a lake to a back to front sloping green.
If you're in or near the area I thoroughly recommend a visit.
