What the club says: Should you be playing golf in the North East of England, a visit to Eaglescliffe is a must. Nestled beside the River Tees with the Cleveland Hills as a backdrop, the course has been described by Golf Monthly magazine as 'a hidden gem' of English golf.

Though picturesque, the course is demanding due to the nature of the rolling terrain and sloping greens and provides a challenge for both novice and experienced golfer alike.

Eaglescliffe & District Golf Club lies one mile to the north of the historic medieval riverside town of Yarm, and is situated on rolling terrain shelving down to the River Tees. A short drive from the towns of Stockton, Darlington, and Middlesbrough, the area is readily accessible by road, rail, and air.

Founded in 1914 as a 13-hole course on Yarm Back Lane, Eaglescliffe moved to its present position in 1928 with a long 18-hole, Par 77 course designed by the famous James Braid.

Superb course with interesting layout. Use of gradients brilliant, DO NOT get above the hole!!! Greens very true bit take a lot of reading. Like the fact there are holes in every direction, definitely a must play!

I was a member here 40 odd years ago. Recently I had the opportunity to play the course again. The first thing I noticed was that the stake trees had grown a bit! Also there was a magnificent new clubhouse with very friendly staff. The large outside veranda is a wonderful place for that post round debriefing and a drink.
The course was in very good condition and offers a physical and mental challenge. It's just as well that it only measures just under 6300 yards as you have to think very carefully about your drives, approach shots and putts whilst wending your way uphill and down dale above and alongside the River Tees.
For me and many others no doubt there aretwo signature holes. The par-5 14th has the river tight on the right whilst fairway bunkers gobble up anything other an accurate shots. The approach to the green is flat and can be difficult to judge for the third shot.
The par-3 17th is simply gorgeous. Not particularly long at around 160 yards. However from an elevated tee you have to carry a lake to a back to front sloping green.
If you're in or near the area I thoroughly recommend a visit.

Visually stunning. Challenging greens. Great price.
Seemed like a lot of Unrepaired on the greens which is always a shame.

Very friendly club (staff and members), course in good condition, reasonably priced. Course has a couple of challenging holes (one disaster hole-SI1 for me that messed up my card) but mainly straight forward and on the short side. Regarding layout, there is an unusual four green confluence that isn't wholly satisfactory with danger walking to the next tees, there is also cross over of two holes close to their respective tees. A couple of the bunkers I found needed sanding.

Golfshake Team ReviewDon't let the fact that some of the fairways cross put you off, as Eaglescliffe is an excellent course with a reasonable variety of holes. The course requires you to think your way round and the greens can be quite testing. I must say, the staff were extremely friendly when I visited and did everything they could to make you comfortable upon arrival. Although tough on the legs, I would definitely visit this course again.
